Tom Selleck said he felt “kind of frustrated” that Blue Bloods was ending. His reflections came after filming wrapped but before the series finale aired, so they were not a reaction to the broadcast. He recalled an emotional last day on set, a final scene at the Reagan family dinner table and how much he would miss the cast.
What did Tom Selleck say about the Blue Bloods ending?
In an interview published by TV Insider on October 3, 2024, Selleck said, “I’m kind of frustrated.” He explained that he had hoped to talk about the show’s success, rather than its ending.
He also described how the end became real in the routine of his work. He was accustomed to preparing dialogue for the next workday, then realized there would be no Monday call. Selleck said it would take time to sort through his feelings.
What was Selleck’s last scene on the show?
His final scene was a family dinner that brought Reagan family members together. Selleck noted the coincidence: “My last scene was ironically family dinner; that was also the first scene I shot on the show 15 years ago!” He also said, “My favorite scenes are with the family, especially at the Sunday dinner table.”

When the crew announced the last shot, the moment turned emotional. Selleck recalled crying and hugs, and said he was proud of the closeness among the cast. Asked what he would miss, he answered: “The actors.”
When did Selleck make these comments?
The timing matters: the TV Insider conversation took place after filming had concluded, but before the finale broadcast. CBS lists the series’ final episode, “End of Tour,” as season 14, episode 18, airing December 13, 2024. The network’s 2024 finale preview describes the cast reflecting on 14 years and 293 episodes.

Selleck had already made his preference clear before filming wrapped. A CBS Sunday Morning listing for May 5, 2024 says he discussed his desire to continue the series. His October comments followed the end of production; they did not come after viewers saw the finale.

In the TV Insider interview, Selleck cited Blue Bloods as ninth among the Top 100 shows of 2023–2024 by total viewers, or sixth if three football programs were excluded. The interview does not identify the publisher of that ranking, so this should be understood as a figure Selleck cited, not an independently verified ranking.
