This is an archived guide to the weekend of March 29–30, 2025—not an upcoming 2026 schedule. The strongest picks from that specific weekend were A24’s theatrical horror-comedy Death of a Unicorn, Apple TV+’s Hollywood satire The Studio, Netflix’s romantic drama The Life List, and the Season 3 finale of Reacher. The lineup also included a Bob Dylan biopic, a new Chelsea Handler stand-up special, a Disney+ family adventure, and Nicole Kidman’s thriller Holland.
Availability below reflects the original U.S. release window. Streaming catalogs, rentals, and digital purchase options can change, so check the relevant service before watching.
The eight best choices from March 29–30, 2025
This list covers a deliberately mixed weekend: one theatrical release, several new streaming films, a prestige comedy series, a stand-up special, a season finale, and a family movie. It is not a current “what is new this weekend” list for 2026; it preserves the original 2025 context and release timing.
| Pick | Best for | Original U.S. availability |
|---|---|---|
| Death of a Unicorn | A strange, dark comedy at the theater | Theatrical release, March 28, 2025 |
| The Studio | Hollywood satire and workplace comedy | Apple TV+, first two episodes March 26, 2025 |
| The Life List | A feel-good romantic drama | Netflix, March 28, 2025 |
| A Complete Unknown | A prestige music biopic | Hulu, reported March 27, 2025 |
| Chelsea Handler: The Feeling | A short adult-comedy option | Netflix, 2025 |
| Reacher, Season 3 finale | Action-series viewers already watching the season | Prime Video, March 27, 2025 |
| Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip | A family movie | Disney+, March 28, 2025 |
| Holland | A spoiler-sensitive thriller | Prime Video, 2025 |
1. Death of a Unicorn: the theatrical novelty pick
If you wanted the most bizarre option of the weekend—and were willing to leave the house—Death of a Unicorn was the clear choice. The A24 horror-comedy follows a father and daughter who accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while traveling to a weekend retreat. The daughter’s father works for a wealthy pharmaceutical family, which sees the mythical creature’s supposedly curative properties as an opportunity to exploit.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega lead the cast, with Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant also appearing. Alex Scharfman wrote and directed the film. It opened theatrically in North America on March 28, 2025, so it was a theater pick during the original weekend—not a home-streaming recommendation.
Choose it if: you want an intentionally odd A24 genre movie with dark humor, satire, and a premise that is difficult to confuse with anything else.
Availability note: A24 later listed digital, Amazon, and Blu-ray purchase paths, but those options should be checked for current U.S. availability rather than assumed.
2. The Studio: the weekend’s best Hollywood satire
The Studio is the strongest series choice in the package for anyone interested in how movies get made—or how the business can get in the way of making them. Seth Rogen plays Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of the fictional Continental Studios. Across its ten half-hour episodes, the comedy follows executives wrestling with filmmakers, stars, marketing departments, awards-season politics, corporate expectations, and the pressure to make films that are both artistically credible and commercially successful.
Apple TV+ released the first two episodes on March 26, 2025, then moved to a weekly schedule through May 21. That means the show was already underway during the March 29–30 weekend, rather than arriving as a complete binge. Apple’s later press materials continued to identify The Studio as an award-winning Apple TV title, giving it a stronger long-term recommendation than a one-weekend release might suggest.
Choose it if: you like workplace comedies, show-business satire, celebrity cameos, and stories about the collision between creative ambition and corporate decision-making.
Where to watch: Apple TV+. If you are comparing services for this group of picks, a streaming-service comparison can be useful because the overall list spans Apple TV+, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Hulu.

3. The Life List: the accessible feel-good movie
Netflix’s The Life List is the most straightforward choice for viewers looking for romance, family secrets, and self-discovery rather than horror or action. Sofia Carson stars as Alex Rose, a young woman whose mother sends her to complete a list of teenage goals after her death. The assignment pushes Alex into experiences, relationships, and revelations that challenge the life she thought she was supposed to lead.

That book-to-screen connection makes this a particularly good pick for viewers who enjoy comparing a film with its source material. The Netflix film became available in the U.S. on March 28, 2025.
Choose it if: you want the warmest, most accessible narrative film in the lineup, or if you are interested in a book adaptation.
4. A Complete Unknown: the music-biopic option
Correct title: A Complete Unknown, not “A Complete Unkown,” as it was misspelled in the original weekend listing. Timothée Chalamet stars as Bob Dylan in this prestige music biopic, making it the natural selection for viewers who would rather watch an awards-season drama than a new comedy or thriller.
The original guide reported that the film joined Hulu on March 27, 2025 in the U.S. That date is historical: streaming, rental, and purchase availability can move between services, so it should not be presented as a permanent Hulu listing without a fresh check.

Choose it if: you are interested in Dylan’s early career, music-centered dramas, or lead performances built around a famous real-life figure. It is also a good alternative for viewers who want a substantial movie rather than a short-form comedy or an episodic series.
5. Chelsea Handler: The Feeling: the easiest short commitment
For a low-commitment option, Netflix’s Chelsea Handler: The Feeling is the simplest choice. Netflix describes it as Handler’s third Netflix comedy special. Its material covers her birth, unexpected encounters, adolescent business ventures, and a series of ill-timed events.

Unlike the narrative films on this list, the special does not require a two-hour investment or familiarity with earlier installments. Netflix classifies it as a 2025 TV-MA stand-up special starring Handler.
Choose it if: you want adult stand-up, a single-sitting watch, or a break from plot-heavy movies and television. Viewer suitability depends on your tolerance for Handler’s mature comedic style.
6. Reacher Season 3 finale: the continuity pick
Fans who were already following Season 3 of Reacher could use the weekend to catch its conclusion. Prime Video lists the season as eight episodes, with Episode 8, “Unfinished Business,” released March 27, 2025. The finale brings Reacher toward a confrontation with Paulie and Quinn.
The season’s wider story places Reacher in Maine, where a kidnapping investigation draws him into a powerful family’s operation, corrupt agents, and a criminal plot. Because this is the season finale—not a new-series premiere—it is not an ideal standalone recommendation for newcomers. Starting at the finale would sacrifice the investigation’s setup and the season’s character and plot progression.

Choose it if: you have been watching Season 3 and want the payoff. If you are new to the series, begin with the season premiere or an earlier season instead of treating “Unfinished Business” as an entry point.

7. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip: the family pick
Disney’s 2025 family comedy follows eleven-year-old Alexander and his family on a Spring Break trip to Mexico City. Their vacation goes wrong after they encounter a cursed idol, turning the journey into a supernatural road-trip adventure.
The cast includes Eva Longoria, Jesse Garcia, Paulina Chávez, Rose Portillo, Thom Nemer, and Cheech Marin. Marvin Lemus directed the film, and Matt Lopez wrote it. Disney identified the movie as PG and promoted its Disney+ release for March 28, 2025.
Do not confuse this movie with the unrelated 2014 Disney film Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The 2025 title has a different cast, a Mexico City setting, a road-trip structure, and the cursed-idol premise.

Holland is the counterweight to the lighter tone of The Life List and the Disney+ family movie. Nicole Kidman plays Nancy Vandergroot, a teacher and homemaker in Holland, Michigan, whose apparently perfect life with her husband and son begins to unravel when she and a colleague grow suspicious of a secret.
Matthew Macfadyen, Gael García Bernal, and Jude Hill also star, and Mimi Cave directed the film. Prime Video identifies it as a 2025 Amazon Studios production with a running time of 1 hour 49 minutes.

The setup is best approached spoiler-free. The film’s appeal depends on discovering what is wrong beneath Nancy’s carefully ordered life, so a short premise is more useful than a list of later twists.
Choose it if: you want a darker, twist-oriented movie and are in the mood for a psychological mystery rather than a feel-good drama or broad family comedy.
How to choose quickly
- Want the strangest premise? See Death of a Unicorn in a theater.
- Want sharp Hollywood workplace comedy? Start The Studio.
- Want romance and self-discovery? Choose The Life List.
- Want music history and a prestige performance? Try A Complete Unknown.
- Want the shortest commitment? Watch Chelsea Handler: The Feeling.
- Already watching an action series? Finish Reacher Season 3.
- Watching with children? Pick Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.
- Want a thriller? Choose Holland.
Platform spread: the original weekend package covered a theater release plus Apple TV+, Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and Disney+. That variety was its main practical advantage: the right choice depended less on a single “best” title than on your preferred genre, household, and subscriptions.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip is the clearly labeled family choice. Disney identified the 2025 film as PG. It is unrelated to the 2014 movie Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
Can I watch Reacher Season 3’s finale by itself?
You can, but it is not recommended. “Unfinished Business” is Episode 8 and the Season 3 finale, so newcomers will miss the investigation and character development that lead to the confrontation.
Which title is based on a book?
The Life List is adapted from Lori Nelson Spielman’s novel of the same name. The paperback is a 368-page Bantam edition with ISBN 9780345540874.
The Bottom Line
For the most distinctive weekend experience, choose Death of a Unicorn at the theater. For a new series, The Studio is the strongest all-around recommendation; for a light movie, choose The Life List; for a family audience, choose Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip; and for suspense, choose Holland. Treat every platform reference as a snapshot of March 2025 and verify current U.S. availability before watching.
