MSNBC ended The Cross Connection in November 2022 after deciding not to renew Tiffany Cross’s contract. Contemporary reports cited repeated concerns about her commentary and whether it met the network’s standards; Cross’s remarks about Florida were a prominent example. But the available reporting does not establish that any one comment caused the decision.
What did Tiffany Cross say about Florida?
In a Comedy Central appearance on Charlamagne tha God’s show, Cross suggested Democrats could afford to lose Florida, described the state in vulgar terms and said, “Let’s castrate Florida.” The Washington Post highlighted the remarks in its November 4, 2022, account of MSNBC’s decision. Mediaite paraphrased her description as calling Florida “the dick of the country.” The Washington Post and Mediaite both placed the comments among broader concerns, not as a confirmed sole cause.
What other comments were reported?
Coverage also referred to Cross’s remarks about Alyssa Farah Griffin and Justice Clarence Thomas, an exchange with Megyn Kelly, and earlier language about taking up a weapon in a fight over democracy. TheWrap reported that the weapon remark drew accusations that Cross was encouraging violence. These were examples discussed in contemporaneous reporting, not a definitive list of what drove MSNBC’s decision. TheWrap’s report described concerns about on-air comments and network values.
What did reports say about MSNBC’s decision?
The Cross Connection was a weekend program that had been on air for almost two years. The Washington Post reported on November 4, 2022, that MSNBC let Cross’s contract lapse. TheWrap said her last episode had aired the previous Saturday and that rotating anchors were expected to cover the time slot while the network looked for a replacement.

Mediaite cited an unnamed source who said Cross had repeatedly been told that her comments and coverage did not adhere to MSNBC standards. TheWrap separately cited a person with knowledge who said she had been addressed multiple times about comments that did not reflect the network’s values. These accounts were attributed to anonymous sources, not to an on-record statement from MSNBC. The Washington Post reported that the network declined to comment and that the decision was not tied to a single statement. The Washington Post’s account is the clearest qualification on that point.
How did Cross respond?
In a statement dated November 4, Cross said she was disheartened by the cancellation and objected to its timing, four days before the 2022 midterm elections. She said the program deliberately centered communities of color and voices often ignored by mainstream media, and framed the decision amid backlash following a “racial reckoning.” She also said she would continue working in journalism.
Cross added, “The attacks on me from other outlets and former hosts will never control my narrative.” She did not name specific people or outlets in the statement reproduced by NBC News. Her account is evidence of how she viewed the decision, not independent confirmation of MSNBC’s internal reasoning.

The public reporting points to ongoing concerns about Cross’s commentary, with the Florida remarks among the examples. However, the core accounts of internal discussions relied substantially on unnamed sources, and MSNBC did not provide an on-record explanation in the Washington Post report. Cross’s public statement offered her perspective on the cancellation and its timing. The available sources do not establish the precise internal deliberations or a single decisive cause.

Rank #3
Cross also said in her statement that more than 4.6 million people watched monthly and described The Cross Connection as MSNBC’s highest-rated weekend show. Those are her claims; the reporting cited here does not independently verify either the audience figure or the ranking. NBC News reproduced her statement.
