They do not establish that every cast member had the same private relationship with him, or that the group stayed equally close over time.
Jerry Seinfeld praised Richards’s contribution to the show
The clearest direct praise comes from co-creator and co-star Jerry Seinfeld. In an Associated Press interview published April 26, 2024, Seinfeld credited Richards, Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus with bringing color to their characters and making the series accessible. He said, “They deserve the credit for the success of the show.” Read Seinfeld’s comments in the Associated Press interview.

That is a substantial professional compliment: Seinfeld singled out Richards as one of the performers whose work helped make the show succeed. It is not, by itself, evidence of a particular private friendship.
Jason Alexander remembered an affectionate farewell
Jason Alexander recalled a moment among the four leads at the final live taping. In his Television Academy oral history, he described the actors holding hands as Seinfeld spoke about how audiences would remember them together. Alexander remembered Seinfeld saying, “I can’t think of three people I’d rather have that be true of.” The interview was conducted May 10, 2013, and the Academy’s page also identifies a chapter on working with Richards and Louis-Dreyfus. #1 Best Overall
Alexander’s memory suggests affection and a sense of shared identity at the finale. It describes a moment from that period, not a guarantee that all four remained equally close in the years afterward.
Set-wide friction does not identify Richards as its cause
Warm memories do not mean the set was free of disagreements. In a September 4, 2026 report on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, El País said she agreed there had been “so many” frictions and arguments, while describing the environment as collaborative and saying they had fun making the show. The report discusses the cast and writers’ working dynamic generally; it does not say Richards caused those conflicts. Read the El País report on Louis-Dreyfus’s remarks.

Louis-Dreyfus also gave a Television Academy oral history in two parts, recorded May 16 and June 5, 2013, discussing work with the cast and Elaine’s relationships with Jerry, George and Kramer. Explore her Television Academy oral history.

Richards’s account of playing Kramer adds context, but it is his own view rather than a co-star’s assessment. ABC News quoted him saying, “Yes, I could be highly weird, and they wanted a highly weird next-door neighbour. So, I just worked each week to get the laughs.” The report says he won three Emmy Awards for the role and discusses his memoir, Entrances and Exits. Read ABC News’s interview and career report.

In a separate Forbes interview published June 5, 2024, Richards discussed how he created Kramer and how acting connected to childhood play; he also said the memoir grew beyond a book solely about Seinfeld. Read the Forbes interview about Richards’s memoir and Kramer.

What the public record supports
- Professional regard: Seinfeld explicitly credited Richards’s performance as part of what made the show work.
- Affection at the finale: Alexander remembered a warm moment among the four leads at their final live taping.
- A complicated workplace: Louis-Dreyfus’s reported remarks describe friction alongside collaboration, without assigning it to Richards.
- No blanket claim of private closeness: These accounts do not show that every cast member felt the same way or establish the state of their relationships across the decades.
