A former employee accused Garth Brooks of rape, assault and battery in a civil complaint filed in Los Angeles on October 3, 2024. Brooks denied the allegations. The complaint and court records establish what the parties have alleged and what procedural steps have occurred; they do not establish that the alleged conduct happened or resolve the case on its merits.
What does the lawsuit accuse Garth Brooks of?
The plaintiff, identified in the complaint by the pseudonym Jane Roe, filed the civil case in Los Angeles Superior Court and requested damages and a jury trial. The complaint brings claims including assault, battery, sexual battery and causes of action related to gender violence. These are the plaintiff’s allegations, not findings by a court. The complaint and related filing describe the claims.
The complaint says Roe worked for Trisha Yearwood beginning in 1999 and began styling Brooks in 2017. It alleges incidents in 2019, including an encounter at Brooks’s home and rape at a Los Angeles hotel. The Associated Press reported that the alleged hotel incident was connected to a trip from Nashville to Los Angeles for a Grammy Awards tribute performance. Neither the complaint nor that reporting establishes that the alleged events occurred. AP’s account of the filing
What has Brooks said in response?
Brooks denied the allegations. The Associated Press reported that he asserted the plaintiff had threatened public litigation unless he paid millions of dollars. That characterization is Brooks’s account, not a court finding or an independently established fact in the records described here.

What is the case’s procedural status?
The Los Angeles case was removed to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on November 1, 2024. The docket records Brooks’s motion to dismiss and a December 10, 2024 scheduling order submitting that motion on the papers. These entries describe procedural events, not a decision on whether the allegations are true. The federal docket

AP reported that Brooks had earlier filed a separate case in Mississippi using an anonymous plaintiff designation, and that his filings there described the allegations as untrue. That separate action should not be confused with the California civil complaint or treated as a ruling on the California claims. AP’s report
