The April 2025 “all-new” trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps put the Silver Surfer in the spotlight as the team’s formidable new threat—and Galactus’s Herald. It also introduced the film’s retro-futuristic, 1960s-inspired world. The trailer announcement signals the character’s prominence in the story; it does not establish that the film is a Silver Surfer origin story or a solo project.
What the April trailer announced
Walt Disney Studios UK Publicity announced the all-new trailer and poster on April 16, 2025, with the trailer’s release set for Thursday, April 17. Disney’s announcement said the materials showcased the First Family, the Silver Surfer, H.E.R.B.I.E., and the movie’s 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic look. Read Disney’s April 16 announcement.
The word “rise” works as headline language for a heightened role in the trailer. The official materials identify the Silver Surfer as Galactus’s Herald, but do not describe the film as her origin story or as a standalone Silver Surfer movie.
Who the Silver Surfer is in the story
Disney’s synopsis frames the central conflict as the Fantastic Four defending Earth from Galactus and his Herald, the Silver Surfer. The threat becomes personal as the family tries to balance its public responsibilities as heroes with its bond as a family. Disney identifies Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.

Disney’s official April announcement sharpened the stakes with the line: “And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.” That is Disney’s promotional copy, not a quotation attributed to a cast member or filmmaker.
The family and the world around them
The film’s central roles are played by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Matt Shakman directed the film. The retro-futuristic 1960s-inspired setting gives the trailer’s ensemble and cosmic threat a distinctive visual frame, while H.E.R.B.I.E. is another highlighted presence.

April’s all-new trailer is not June’s final trailer
Disney announced a separate video as The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ “final trailer” on June 25, 2025. That later milestone should not be confused with the April all-new trailer: the April announcement specifically foregrounded the First Family, Silver Surfer, H.E.R.B.I.E., and the film’s retro-futuristic aesthetic, while the June announcement labels its video the final trailer.
