The 2024 launch trailer introduces the remake’s central setup: Ranma Saotome is cursed to change into a girl when splashed with cold water, while hot water turns him back into a boy. It also sets up his arranged engagement to Akane Tendo, bringing supernatural slapstick and romantic conflict together. Official announcements fill in the trailer-era credits and release plan, but the trailer alone does not establish how much of the manga the series adapts.
What did the Ranma 1/2 remake trailer reveal?
The trailer presents the core comic predicament: Ranma’s transformations are triggered by water temperature, and his engagement to Akane is arranged by their parents. Netflix’s official trailer description calls the series a “slapstick martial arts rom-com,” a concise description of how the curse and the engagement generate both physical comedy and romantic friction. Netflix’s trailer listing and its series page provide the official descriptions.
The fuller premise in Netflix’s series synopsis says Ranma fell into one of the cursed springs at Jusenkyo while training in China. Cold water turns him into a girl; hot water returns him to boy form. The curse is the premise’s mechanism, not a one-off plot twist: it complicates Ranma and Akane’s engagement and supplies the setup for the martial-arts comedy.
Who voices Ranma and Akane in the remake?
The Japanese leads return from the 1989 anime adaptation: Kappei Yamaguchi voices Ranma, Megumi Hayashibara voices female Ranma, and Noriko Hidaka voices Akane. Netflix’s August 24, 2024 announcement identifies the performers and their roles. These are Japanese-cast credits; they do not identify the English-dub cast.

Who is making the new adaptation?
MAPPA produces the remake, with Konosuke Uda directing, Kimiko Ueno serving as series composer, and Hiromi Taniguchi designing the characters. These credits were listed in the July 17, 2024 ShoPro announcement. They establish the production team, not whether this version is more faithful or better than the earlier anime.
What is the remake based on?
The series adapts Rumiko Takahashi’s manga. Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions reports that Ranma 1/2 ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1987 to 1996; Netflix also identifies Takahashi as the manga’s author. The launch trailer introduces the premise, but does not establish which manga chapters or story arcs the remake covers.

No. The official Ranma 1/2 website lists the first series’ Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 separately from trailers for later seasons. The trailer discussed here is the 2024 launch trailer; it should not be confused with promotional videos released after the series began.
