The viral clip showed a gust moving Donald Trump’s hair as he boarded Air Force One on February 2, 2018, apparently exposing part of his scalp. It revealed a moment in which his hairstyle shifted—not a medically verified explanation of his hair, its treatment, or any procedure.
What happened in the video?
The footage, credited to Reuters on The Guardian’s video page, shows Trump boarding Air Force One on February 2, 2018. A gust moves his hair and appears to reveal scalp. The clip circulated widely and drew intense commentary when news outlets covered it on February 7.
That is the directly observable event. The footage can show how his hair looked in that moment, but it cannot establish why it looked that way or whether he had undergone a particular treatment.
Did the clip prove he had a hair transplant?
No. The Guardian quoted hair-restoration physician Alan Bauman giving his professional opinion that Trump had previously had a transplant to the front of his hairline. Bauman’s view was an attributed interpretation, not a diagnosis verified by the footage. He also cautioned that the video could have been doctored. The Guardian reported that the White House had not immediately responded to its inquiry.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Neither the appearance of scalp nor Bauman’s opinion proves a transplant, scalp-reduction surgery, a hairpiece, or any other procedure. The video alone does not establish a medical history.
What else did contemporaneous coverage say?
Allure’s February 7, 2018 coverage credited writer Ashley Feinberg with sharing the clip and discussed earlier reporting, including material associated with Michael Wolff’s account. Claims from a book or prior reporting should be understood as claims attributed to those sources, not as clinical facts established by the footage.

The Guardian also quoted Bauman saying Trump used “quite a bit of hairspray” to maintain his preferred style. That was Bauman’s reported observation or opinion; the clip does not independently confirm what product, if any, Trump used.

A later Goodreads author-blog index lists the headline “Behold! the gruesome reality of Trump’s hair is finally known.” as a Mashable item dated February 7, 2018. The original Mashable article was not located, so its byline and full text cannot be independently verified here. The headline’s suggestion that the reality was “finally known” goes beyond what the circulating clip establishes.
