On the April 9, 2025, episode of Two Ts in a Pod, Teddi Mellencamp said her father, John Mellencamp, asked whether she would be included in the family mausoleum. She later clarified that the conversation was light-hearted and that they were laughing throughout.
What did John Mellencamp ask about the family mausoleum?
Teddi Mellencamp recounted that her father had called her 11 times before she finally answered. “Yesterday my dad calls 11 times in a row. Finally, I answer, I’m like, ‘I’m in the bath. Let me live a little. Like let me enjoy,’” she said on the podcast, according to Bravo’s April 10, 2025 report.
She said he then asked, “I just want to make sure you’re going to be in our group family mausoleum.” Mellencamp asked whether there would be space for her children. As she described it, her father outlined a central group of five with surrounding spaces and suggested that, since she was working on her will, she could include the arrangement there. The Independent’s account also recounted the exchange.
What was the tombstone joke?
Mellencamp joked about having to visit the Indiana site and suggested “Hot girls never die” as an epitaph. The line was part of her retelling of the conversation, not evidence that she had announced a burial plan.

Did she say the conversation was serious?
No. The following day, Mellencamp objected to the way the exchange had been portrayed and said, “I need to clarify that this was a light-hearted conversation, laughing the whole time.” She also said she was doing well at that time. That clarification is important: headlines that cast the anecdote as “heartbreaking” or “shockingly” serious do not reflect her own description of it, as reported by The Independent.
What was the cancer context in April 2025?
Reports published in April 2025 said Mellencamp had been diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 and that it had spread to her brain and lungs in early 2025. Bravo reported that she was receiving radiation and immunotherapy at that time; see its April 10, 2025 health update and account of the podcast anecdote.
Those reports describe the situation as it was reported in April 2025. They do not establish Mellencamp’s health status as of October 8, 2026.
