Gizmodo reported that the end credits of Turner Classic Movies’ broadcast of Carlos Saura’s El Jardín de las Delicias (The Garden of Delights) included the line “subtitles by supersoft and calisto for KG.” The report identified “KG” as Karagarga, a private film community that uses BitTorrent. But the credit alone does not show that TCM obtained the film or subtitle file directly from Karagarga. TCM’s reported explanation pointed instead to the film’s rights holder, while the subtitles’ earlier provenance remained unresolved.
What viewers reportedly saw
In a July 6, 2023 report, Gizmodo said viewers noticed the subtitle credit at the end of TCM’s broadcast of Saura’s El Jardín de las Delicias, also known in English as The Garden of Delights. The reported wording was “subtitles by supersoft and calisto for KG.” Gizmodo connected “KG” to Karagarga, which it described as a private BitTorrent-based film community focused on older, obscure, and cult films. The credit is an attribution appearing in the end credits as described by the report. It is not, by itself, proof of who supplied the subtitle file to TCM, how any later distributor obtained it, or whether its use was authorized. What TCM reportedly said about the subtitles
Gizmodo reported that a TCM spokesperson relayed an explanation from distributor Janus Films: the subtitles had been supplied by Video Mercury, identified in the article as the film’s rights holder. This is an account of what the spokesperson said Janus Films told TCM; it is not a direct, on-the-record quotation from a named spokesperson. That explanation identifies the immediate supplier according to TCM’s account, but it does not trace the subtitle file’s earlier history. The report did not establish where Video Mercury obtained the file or whether the file’s use was authorized. So the credit and the broadcaster’s explanation answer different questions: one names an attribution visible in the film’s credits; the other describes the supply route TCM said its distributor reported.
What the report did not establish about Karagarga
Karagarga’s presence in the credit does not establish that TCM downloaded the film or subtitles from the community. A subtitle set could have circulated elsewhere before reaching a rights holder, but the report did not verify that scenario—or any other chain of custody. The available account therefore supports neither a direct Karagarga-to-TCM transfer nor a definitive account of how the credited subtitles reached the broadcast.

Why Criterion Channel was mentioned
Gizmodo also reported that the account @rarefilmm said the same subtitle set appeared on Criterion Channel. The article suggested that a common supply from the rights holder might explain the appearance on both services. That was a proposed explanation, not an independently verified comparison of the copies or proof of a shared source. Gizmodo’s attributed Criterion Channel mention.
