Neither has been definitively confirmed as being about him in the sources reviewed: Swift described the relationship behind “Out of the Woods” without naming her partner, and Styles said he did not know whether those songs were about him. “Two Ghosts,” a song by Styles, is also associated with Swift, but its interview exchange was not an explicit confirmation.

That distinction matters. A song can invite a biographical interpretation without its subject being confirmed. The available comments support discussing these tracks as widely linked to Styles, not as proven portraits of him.
What did Taylor Swift say about “Out of the Woods”?
In a 2014 Grammy Museum video interview, Swift described “Out of the Woods” as exploring the fragility of a relationship and the anxiety of not knowing where it was headed. She also spoke about the excitement of the relationship and how something fragile could still be worthwhile and beautiful. ABC News reported that Swift did not address the rumor that the song was about Styles: ABC News’s report on Swift’s interview.

- The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th
Her comments establish the emotional territory of the song, but not the identity of the person involved. Calling it a song about Styles goes beyond what she said in that interview.
Did Harry Styles confirm “Style” or “Out of the Woods”?
No. In a 2017 Rolling Stone profile, Styles said, “I mean, I don’t know if they’re about me or not,” referring to the songs. He added that he was lucky if what they had been through helped create them. The answer acknowledges the possibility without confirming either attribution: Rolling Stone’s profile of Styles.
Rank #2
Styles also described writing about past relationships as a way of honoring the time shared. That broader reflection is not an identification of a specific song’s subject, and it does not turn his uncertain answer into confirmation.
Is “Two Ghosts” about Taylor Swift?
“Two Ghosts,” by Styles, is often connected to Swift in fan discussion, but the cited interview exchange does not establish that she was its subject. In Vogue’s account of a 2017 BBC Radio 1 interview, host Nick Grimshaw introduced the song as being about Swift. Styles replied, “I think it’s pretty self-explanatory,” then spoke generally about change and things becoming different. He did not explicitly name Swift in the reported exchange: Vogue’s report on the interview.

How to separate confirmation from interpretation
For these songs, the evidence is clearest when the statements and the theories are kept separate:
- Documented: Swift discussed the relationship anxiety and fragility expressed in “Out of the Woods,” without naming Styles in the cited interview.
- Documented: Styles said he did not know whether “Style” and “Out of the Woods” were about him.
- Interpretation: Fans and coverage have linked those two songs to Styles, but the cited sources do not establish that attribution as fact.
- Interpretation: The reported “Two Ghosts” exchange begins with the interviewer’s framing; Styles did not explicitly identify Swift as the song’s subject.
Accordingly, “songs commonly believed to be about Harry Styles” is more accurate than “songs confirmed to be about Harry Styles.”
