Sylvester Stallone called Donald Trump the “second George Washington” while introducing him at a gala at Mar-a-Lago on November 14, 2024. The remark was part of a celebratory speech for Trump, then president-elect—not a neutral historical assessment or a statement of Stallone’s current views.
What did Stallone say?
Stallone invoked George Washington’s role in defending the country, then turned to Trump and said: “Guess what? We got the second George Washington. Congratulations.” News24’s video description gives the fuller passage as: “When George Washington defended this country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world. Because without him, you can imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got the second George Washington. Congratulations!” News24’s November 14 video and USA TODAY’s November 15 video report the comparison.
Where and when did he make the remark?
Stallone made the comment while introducing Trump at the America First Policy Institute Gala at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. The event took place Thursday, November 14, 2024; Fox News published its video report the following day. Fox News’ November 15 report identifies the gala and location.
How should the comparison be understood?
It was praise delivered during a celebratory introduction shortly after the 2024 election. Stallone made a personal comparison; the remark does not establish an objective equivalence between Trump and Washington or their historical records.

Does it describe Stallone’s current views?
No. The statement documents what Stallone said at that 2024 event. The Associated Press later reported that he has criticized Trump, but that report’s brief description does not establish the full chronology or scope of any change in his views. The Associated Press revisited Stallone’s comments in coverage of the 50th anniversary of Rocky.
