Those findings describe a historical snapshot of listening on Spotify—not a current chart or a measure of the entire music industry.
What the 2022 Spotify figures said
On February 25, 2022, Geo News reported Spotify data released around the platform’s first anniversary in Pakistan. The report said creators in Pakistan had added more than 19,590 songs to Spotify over the preceding year. It named India, the United States and the United Kingdom as the leading countries listening to Pakistani music, but did not give country-level shares or counts. Geo News’ account of Spotify’s figures is the source for these details.

The country list indicates that listening crossed Pakistan’s borders, but it does not establish how large each audience was, how the countries ranked against one another, or whether “leading” referred to streams, listeners or another measure. The underlying Spotify announcement and a detailed methodology were not available in the cited account.
Artists and song that led the reported rankings
Spotify’s rankings, as reported by Geo News in 2022, placed these Pakistani artists among the most-streamed abroad:
#1 Best Overall
- Atif Aslam
- Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
- Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
- Momina Mustehsan
- Bilal Saeed
The report named “Baari,” by Bilal Saeed and Momina Mustehsan, as the top local song abroad. These are rankings from the period covered by the 2022 report; they should not be read as today’s most-streamed artists or song.
What Spotify reported about electronic music
The same report said global streams of Pakistani electronic music had increased by 223% since Spotify launched in Pakistan. It also said 23% of streams in the genre came from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany. The report text did not specify the exact comparison window, denominator or methodology for either figure, so they are best understood as Spotify-reported growth and geography claims from that account—not independently audited industry measures.

How later Spotify figures add context
Spotify’s April 2026 retrospective described later platform trends in Pakistan: listenership had grown by more than 750% since launch, fans had created over 15 million playlists in five years, and listeners streamed more than 140 artists per year on average. The company also reported that streams of Pakistani artists had grown more than sevenfold since 2021 and that the number of Pakistani artists on Spotify had risen nearly 75% over five years. These measures cover different periods and activity types from the 2022 report; they do not update its foreign-country or artist rankings. Spotify’s 2026 Pakistan listening trends provides the later figures.
Other Spotify announcements illustrate distinct forms of international discovery without validating the 2022 measurements. In 2024, Spotify said Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan had more than 800 million streams worldwide and that almost 60% of his listeners at that time were Gen Z, in an announcement about its ICON Pakistan program for legacy artists. The ICON Pakistan announcement describes the program and its figures.

Spotify’s 2023 account of Desi music said Punjabi track releases had nearly doubled compared with 2021 and identified “Pasoori” as the first Pakistani song to reach Spotify’s global Viral 50 chart. That is a separate platform milestone, not a continuation of the 2022 rankings. Spotify’s 2023 Desi music account gives that context. Likewise, Spotify’s 2025 report said Pakistan was among the countries where Indian-language songs were most streamed in 2024; that concerns listening to Indian-language music in Pakistan, not Pakistani music exports. Spotify’s 2025 report on Indian artists’ international reach covers that different measure.

The 2022 figures offer a view of Pakistani music discovery on Spotify: songs were being added to the platform, listeners outside Pakistan were streaming local artists, and the report identified several overseas markets. They do not by themselves measure radio play, concert attendance, revenue, total listeners across services, or the health of Pakistan’s music industry as a whole. Spotify’s later figures suggest continuing growth on its platform, but their different time periods and definitions should remain separate from the 2022 snapshot.
