The official Max clip identifies it as Ellie covering “Take On Me.”
Which episode features “Take On Me”?
The performance takes place in season 2, episode 4, “Day One,” during a quiet moment between Ellie and Dina in Seattle. TV Guide identifies the guitar scene as part of the episode and describes it as a moment of romance amid the surrounding danger. TV Guide’s episode 4 coverage discusses how the scene was filmed.

Who originally recorded the song?
“Take On Me” is an A-ha song. In the series, Bella Ramsey performs it in character as Ellie; it is a cover, not a new song written for the episode. The official Max clip labels the performance “Ellie Covers ‘Take On Me.’”
Why viewers may think of “Future Days”
The game and television show use the songs differently. In The Last of Us Part II, Ellie and Dina’s guitar scene uses Pearl Jam’s “Future Days”; the corresponding television moment in episode 4 instead uses A-ha’s “Take On Me.” Time Out notes the difference in its season 2 soundtrack guide.
#1 Best Overall
“Future Days” does appear later in the show: Ellie briefly sings it in episode 5, and Joel plays it in episode 6. Those later moments are separate from Ellie’s episode 4 performance. Sky’s episode 6 explainer covers Joel’s scene.

TV Guide reports that cinematographer Catherine Goldschmidt saw the scene as “love blooming” between Ellie and Dina, with a calm, romantic pause set against the danger around them. The song is part of that intimate exchange, rather than the “Future Days” performance associated with the game.
