Ryan Moloney left his regular role as Toadie on Neighbours in 2024 after nearly 30 years. He had begun training to direct and filmed an episode behind the camera, while later profiles describe a life in Victoria involving beekeeping, local work, farm tasks and animals. His departure was not simply a voluntary decision to quit: Moloney said it was made for him. Nor has he ruled out television work; in 2026 he appeared on SAS: Australia vs England.
Why did Ryan Moloney leave Neighbours?
Moloney announced in June 2024 that he would leave the show’s regular on-screen cast after playing Jarrod “Toadie” Rebecchi for nearly three decades. The Guardian and ABC News reported his announcement and his plans to train as a director.
He later clarified that leaving was not entirely his choice. In an August 2024 interview with The Standard, Moloney said, “It was not that I decided now was the time, I had that decision made for me.” He also said he wanted to do something else and was grateful the decision had been made for him, because he was unsure whether he would ever turn down another contract.
What was his next career step?
Training to direct
At the time of his departure announcement, Moloney said he had started director training and had filmed his first episode as a director. That establishes an initial move behind the camera on Neighbours; it does not establish that he went on to build a continuing directing career or identify current directing projects.

What is Ryan Moloney doing now?
Beekeeping, local work and farm life
A May 2026 Now To Love / TV WEEK profile describes Moloney living in Colac, Victoria, with his family, doing local service work and enjoying farm work and animals. It reports that beekeeping began as a hobby and grew into a small business.
A January 2026 episode description for Acast’s Just Tak podcast lists bees, solar, growing produce and working the land among the topics discussed. Together, these reports support describing sustainability as an interest in his post-soap life, but they do not quantify environmental benefits, detail specific practices sufficiently to assess their impact, or establish a formal sustainability business.
