Prince Andrew’s formal loss of the style of Royal Highness and the titular dignity of Prince did not remove the Princess styles of his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The Royal Family’s succession page, accessed on 8 October 2026, still places Andrew eighth, Beatrice ninth and Eugenie twelfth. The changes concerned Andrew’s own titles and honours. They did not announce the removal of his daughters’ styles, and the House of Commons Library states that the 2025 title changes did not themselves alter his place in the line of succession.
What was removed from Andrew, and when
Coverage often treats three different steps as one event. They happened on different dates, through different instruments, and they had different legal effects.
| Date | Step | Source | What it did |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 October 2025 | Andrew said he would no longer use his title or the honours conferred on him, with the King’s agreement | Andrew’s statement, published by the Royal Family | Recorded his decision about personal use. It did not by itself remove any title in law. |
| 30 October 2025 | Buckingham Palace said the King had started a formal process to remove Andrew’s style, titles and honours. Andrew would be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. | Buckingham Palace statement | Opened the formal removal process and set his new name for official use. |
| 3 November 2025 | Letters Patent declared Andrew no longer entitled to the style or title of Royal Highness and the titular dignity of Prince | House of Commons Library, “The removal of titles and honours,” 12 March 2026 | Completed the formal removal of those two styles. |
The Commons Library distinguishes between stopping the use of a title and changing its legal status. A person can stop using a title without the legal position changing, and formal removal is a separate process. Its 12 March 2026 briefing also notes that Andrew remained Duke of York, although that title had been removed from the Roll of the Peerage. A reader who sees “Andrew lost his title” should ask which of these steps is meant.
Where Beatrice and Eugenie stand
The Palace’s announcements concerned Andrew. The official Royal Family list published in November 2025 continues to identify his daughters as Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and the succession page places them ninth and twelfth.

| Person | Style or name on official sources | Place in the succession list (accessed 8 October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Prince Andrew | Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, per the Palace statement of 30 October 2025. Royal Highness and Prince style removed by Letters Patent dated 3 November 2025. | 8th |
| Princess Beatrice | Princess Beatrice, per the Royal Family list of November 2025. No removal of her style is reported in the sources. | 9th |
| Princess Eugenie | Princess Eugenie, per the Royal Family list of November 2025. No removal of her style is reported in the sources. | 12th |
Beatrice’s and Eugenie’s children
The succession page places each princess’s children after her. Eugenie’s children appear in the order shown on the page, with Master Ernest Brooksbank followed by Miss Adelaide Brooksbank. The Royal Family announced on 4 August 2026 that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s daughter was born on 3 August 2026. Readers who want to see how that newest child is placed should check the current succession page, because the announcement itself does not set out the order.

A person’s title and their position in the line of succession are governed by different rules. The succession page states that succession is regulated by descent and by parliamentary statute. The Commons Library’s March 2026 briefing says the 2025 title changes did not themselves affect Andrew’s position. That is why the published list still places him eighth even though he no longer holds the style of Prince.
Where the possible legislation stands
On 23 February 2026, the government said it was not ruling out action and would consider whether further steps were required. During a debate on 24 February 2026, Minister for Trade Chris Bryant said the government intended to bring forward legislation when it could. The Commons Library reported these remarks in its 10 March 2026 briefing on the line of succession.
These remarks describe a possible future legislative process. They do not show that a change has been made. Until an Act of Parliament or an updated succession page says otherwise, Andrew remains eighth in the published order.

In their own words
- Andrew, in his statement of 17 October 2025: “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.”
- Buckingham Palace, 30 October 2025: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.”
- Chris Bryant, Minister for Trade, in Parliament, as reported in the Commons Library briefing of 10 March 2026: “we are working at pace on this, and we intend to bring forward legislation when we can.” The remark concerns the succession issue and is not evidence that the line of succession has already changed.
