The Season 2 finale puts Professor Friede in the middle of a Laqua crisis; the official Season 3 overview then says the Rising Volt Tacklers are without a leader a year later. That makes Friede’s fate look troubling, but neither source confirms that he is dead or identifies him as the absent leader.
What happens in the Season 2 finale?
The finale is episode 44, “Where the Adventure Leads,” according to The Pokémon Company International’s Season 2 episode guide. Its official synopsis says Spinel deploys Laquium Spheres while everyone is distracted, setting off a disaster in Laqua. Liko, Roy, Dot, Friede, and Amethio are among those forced to decide whether to flee.
That synopsis establishes that Friede is present in the emergency and faces the same perilous choice. It does not describe his final moments, say what becomes of him after the crisis, or state that he is separated from the others.

Why does Season 3 make Friede’s fate seem ominous?
The official Season 3 overview jumps ahead one year and says: “It’s been one year since the events in Laqua left the Rising Volt Tacklers without a leader and a way forward”. Read alongside the finale synopsis, that line invites the possibility that Friede’s absence is connected to the Laqua disaster.
But the overview does not name Friede as the leader who is gone, explain whether the group’s situation results from his disappearance, or specify what happened to him. “Without a leader” signals a serious change for the team; it is not confirmation of Friede’s death.
Is Friede dead?
The official material cited here does not confirm that Friede is dead. It establishes that he is involved in the Laqua emergency, followed by a one-year time jump to a Rising Volt Tacklers without a leader. The exact event linking those facts—and Friede’s status during the intervening year—remains unstated in the published overviews.
Season 3’s episode list also includes an episode titled “Friede: Wings of Fire!” That title keeps Friede in the season’s narrative framing, but it does not reveal the episode’s plot or settle his fate.
