Former Menendez trial prosecutor Pamela Bozanich told TikTok users not to “mess with” her in Netflix’s 2024 documentary The Menéndez Brothers. The remark was recorded for the documentary, which began streaming October 7, 2024, and was reported the next day amid renewed online support for Erik and Lyle Menendez.
What did Pamela Bozanich say?
In the documentary, Bozanich said: “And by the way, all of you TikTok people, I am armed. We got guns all over the house. So don’t mess with me.” Us Weekly reported the quote on October 8, 2024, describing Bozanich as a lead prosecutor in the brothers’ first murder trial.

Her comment was directed broadly at TikTok users discussing the case and calling for the brothers’ release. It should be understood as a remark in the documentary, not as a threat to a named person. Le Monde also reported the reaction and criticism the comment drew after the documentary’s release.
Why was Bozanich addressing TikTok users?
The documentary captured the renewed public attention around the brothers and online calls for their release. Bozanich objected to public opinion on TikTok influencing how people view criminal cases. The remark reflects her response to that social-media discussion; online support or criticism is not evidence about what happened in the case.

What was the Menendez case about?
Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted of first-degree murder in 1996 for killing their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. They admitted killing their parents but argued they feared them because of alleged abuse. The prosecution disputed the abuse claims and argued that financial gain was the motive. Those competing accounts should be attributed to the brothers’ defense and the prosecution, rather than treating disputed allegations as established fact. Associated Press coverage in October 2024 also noted that family members differed over whether the brothers should be released.

In May 2025, a judge reduced the brothers’ sentences to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole. Both were denied parole in August 2025. The Associated Press reported the resentencing and parole timeline; the Los Angeles Times reported Erik’s denial and Lyle’s contemporaneous hearing status.

As of the Associated Press report published September 8, 2026, their next parole suitability hearings had been tentatively moved to March 2027 from the prior August 2028 eligibility date. That is a hearing date, not a parole grant or release date; the report said the brothers remained incarcerated. The AP reported the revised hearing timing.
