What Noel Gallagher Said About Prince Harry—and Why He Compared Him to Liam

Noel Gallagher’s 2021 “woke snowflake” insult was a personal opinion, tied to his own history with Liam Gallagher—not firsthand knowledge of Prince Harry and Prince William.

Noel Gallagher called Prince Harry a “typical f****** woke snowflake” in remarks reported on 10 June 2021, while saying he sympathised with Prince William. Gallagher compared the royal brothers’ public conflict to his own bitter history with his younger brother, Liam—but he also said he did not know either prince. His comments were an opinion, not an eyewitness account of the royal family’s private dispute.

What did Noel Gallagher say about Prince Harry?

In an interview with The Sun, as reported by Sky News on 10 June 2021, Gallagher said he felt Prince William’s “pain” because William had a younger brother speaking publicly about the family. Gallagher said: “Prince William. I feel that f****** lad’s pain. He’s got a f****** younger brother shooting his f****** mouth off with s*** that is just so unnecessary. I’d like to think I was always the William.”

He then called Harry “a typical f****** woke snowflake, f****** a*******. Just don’t be f****** dissing your family because there’s no need for it.” “Woke snowflake” was Gallagher’s insult and characterization; it is not a neutral description of Harry or a verified account of the family dispute.

Why did Gallagher compare Harry to Liam Gallagher?

Gallagher drew on his own long-running public conflict with his younger brother Liam, his former Oasis bandmate. The analogy was that, in Gallagher’s view, Harry was the younger brother speaking out while William was in the position Gallagher associated with himself. It expressed Gallagher’s personal perspective; it does not establish that the royal brothers’ relationship was the same as the Gallaghers’.

Sky News reported that Gallagher said he did not know William or Harry. His comments therefore reflected his reaction to what had been said publicly, not personal knowledge of the princes or their family conversations.

What prompted the remarks in 2021?

Coverage published on 10 June 2021 situated Gallagher’s remarks amid renewed public discussion of Harry and Meghan’s experiences with the royal family. The Independent connected them to the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey and a mental-health documentary involving Harry and Winfrey. The Standard also reported on Gallagher’s comments that day.

In the Oprah interview, Harry said, as quoted by The Independent: “I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence or total neglect.” That is Harry’s account of his experience, not an independently established finding. It also differs from Gallagher’s judgment that Harry should not criticize his family: one describes Harry’s stated experience, while the other is Gallagher’s opinion about speaking publicly.

How were Gallagher’s words reported?

Contemporary reports attributed the remarks to Gallagher’s interview with The Sun. The quotations above follow Sky News’s fuller rendering, which includes profanity; some other outlets partially censored the language. The Independent and The Standard also covered the remarks on 10 June 2021. The available reporting identifies the interview as the source, rather than providing an independently available transcript of the original exchange.

At the time, Sky News reported that Gallagher was promoting Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ Back the Way We Came: Vol 1 and a career documentary. The immediate story, however, was his comparison between the public dispute involving the princes and his own relationship with Liam.
