Nathan Fielder’s “didn’t feel that at all” remark was about acting in The Curse, not a claim about his private feelings toward Emma Stone. In The Rehearsal episode “Kissme,” he says he performed the expressions of a man in love while copying examples he had seen in television and movies.
What did Nathan Fielder say?
In narration discussed in the “Kissme” episode, Fielder describes playing a husband in love opposite Stone in The Curse. Entertainment Weekly’s recap reproduces his words: “But even though I was mimicking the expressions of a man in love, inside my head, I didn’t feel that at all for the actress playing my wife.” He then explains: “I was basically just copying the expressions of other people in love that I had seen on TV and movies.” Entertainment Weekly via AOL, May 12, 2025.
The quotes are attributed to Fielder by a secondary episode recap; an official transcript was not available in the reporting cited here. They refer to his account of performing a fictional relationship in The Curse, where Fielder and Stone played a married couple. Geo News, May 12, 2025.
What was the context in “Kissme”?
The The Rehearsal episode considers the boundary between emotions an actor performs and emotions an actor experiences. According to Entertainment Weekly’s recap, the discussion begins with an actress describing feelings that seem real during a love scene. Fielder questions how a performer’s feelings relate to a character’s fictional relationship, then reflects on his own work with Stone. The episode also uses a staged date with a participant playing a character to explore how performing a role can affect behavior.

What the remark does—and does not—mean
Fielder is describing a gap between the expressions he used for a character and the emotions he says he experienced while acting. His explanation is that he borrowed recognizable expressions of love from television and movies. The comment does not establish what he privately felt toward Stone outside the performance, nor does it indicate that Stone shared his experience.
