Mark Wahlberg called the romantic premise of The Union “every guy’s fantasy”—meaning his character gets a chance with Halle Berry’s character, not that the actors are romantically involved off screen. In a Fox News Digital interview published July 2, 2024, Wahlberg also said that portraying romance felt “a little weird” and affirmed his love for his wife.
What Wahlberg meant by “every guy’s fantasy”
Wahlberg was talking about the film’s story. Fox News Digital reported him saying: “Halle, her and I have known each other for such a long time, and this movie is going to be so great because it’s every guy’s fantasy, to think that they got a shot with Halle Berry.”

He described the characters as childhood sweethearts who find each other again. His character, he said, has waited 25 years for Berry’s character to return. “There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to prove himself to her if he got a second chance,” Wahlberg told Fox News Digital. The remark is about that fictional reunion, not a real-life relationship between the actors.
Why the romance felt unusual to film
Wahlberg said that acting out romance on screen could feel awkward: “I think it’s a little weird anyway when you’re portraying some sort of romance onscreen, it’s not normal, but my wife knows that she is my everything.” He added, “She is the most special woman in the world.” Fox News Digital attributed both comments to Wahlberg in the same interview.
