Her concern was that a new version would inevitably be measured against the beloved original, in which she played Lucimar. She made the remark before the remake’s announced March 31, 2025 premiere, so it was not a review of the finished production.
What did Maria Gladys say?
Asked about the announced remake, Gladys replied: “Imagina! Não quero nem ver!”—roughly, “Imagine! I don’t even want to watch!” The Portuguese wording is from NaTelinha’s July 9, 2024 interview; the English line is a translation.
She went on to call another Vale Tudo “um perigo” (“a danger”), invoking the song lyric “Nada será como antes” (“Nothing will be as it was”). She described the original as a landmark for television and its actors, then stressed that a remake is a different story. Her objection was not a detailed assessment of the new production: she said remakes are delicate because audiences compare them, often deciding that the older version or a familiar performance was better.
Gladys also declined to guess who would play Lucimar in the new version: “Não quero nem ver quem vai fazer meu personagem!” (“I don’t even want to see who will play my character!”). NaTelinha’s interview reports the remarks.

Why was her perspective tied to the original?
Gladys played Lucimar in the original Vale Tudo, which aired from 1988 to 1989. Her comments came from the position of an actor whose work was part of the earlier production, not from someone evaluating the remake after seeing it.
That distinction matters: her July 2024 response was about the pressure remakes face when audiences remember an original strongly. It should not be presented as a verdict on the 2025 series or on its cast.

What was the remake, and when did it premiere?
TV Globo announced the new version for March 31, 2025. Manuela Dias wrote it, with Paulo Silvestrini as artistic director. That premiere date has passed; Globo’s announcement is not evidence of the program’s current availability on any streaming service.
The original was created by Gilberto Braga, Aguinaldo Silva and Leonor Bassères. The remake retains the central conflict between Raquel and her daughter Maria de Fátima: Raquel believes success can be achieved with integrity, while Maria de Fátima is willing to do whatever it takes to reach her ambitions. Globo says the adaptation updates technological, ethical and behavioral elements for contemporary audiences.

How did Globo describe its adaptation?
Writer Manuela Dias described honesty as the story’s central question: “A questão da honestidade é o assunto principal de ‘Vale Tudo’. É possível ser bem-sucedido sendo honesto?” She said the question remains relevant and that the discussion of ethics continues. Artistic director Paulo Silvestrini said the production was being made for viewers today, including people familiar with the first version and newcomers, while keeping the story intact.
These are the creators’ stated aims, not an independent assessment of how the completed remake compares with the original. The premise gives the new version room to reinterpret a familiar ethical conflict, but Gladys’s point remains: viewers bring memories and expectations to any remake, and the new work becomes its own story.
