Manu Ríos has not said he opposed nudity or sex scenes in Élite. He described his first nude scenes as intimidating, said the production team and intimacy coordinator helped him feel supported, and argued that sex scenes should have a reason to be in the story. His comments were made at different points in 2022 and refer to different seasons.
Why the early nudity scenes felt intimidating
In an interview published by GQ España on 13 April 2022, Ríos discussed his experience filming season five and recalled his earlier season-four work. He said the first days felt unfamiliar because he had never done that kind of nude scene before. He had expected nudity might be part of the job while casting and preparing for the character, but the prospect still made him nervous, particularly before he knew the crew.

“Los primeros días sí. Yo no había hecho nunca antes un desnudo de esa manera, ninguna escena de ese tipo, y era todo muy nuevo. Me daba vértigo y respeto la situación, sobre todo al no conocer al equipo todavía.”
Ríos said the team was empathetic and tried to find solutions if he felt uncomfortable. A contemporaneous Europa FM report published 25 June 2021 also described his early filming experience, including the use of a modesty covering and support from the intimacy team. That report is a secondary account; Ríos’s later GQ interview provides his fuller explanation of how he felt.

What the intimacy coordinator did
Ríos said the season had an intimacy coordinator and that they talked through what performers felt comfortable doing and what they did not want to do. He described that support as useful, rather than presenting the scenes as something performers simply had to accept without discussion.
“Ahora con la coordinadora tenemos charlas, nos ayuda a ver hasta dónde queremos llegar, qué no queremos hacer.. Es muy útil.”

His account concerns the support he recalled on the season in question. It does not establish that every scene or every season of Élite followed an identical process.
Did Ríos think the sex scenes were gratuitous?
His answer depended on the framing. In an 8 April 2022 interview with LOS40, he acknowledged that the scenes could feel gratuitous, while adding that, viewed from a distance, they were part of what Élite was.

“Muchas veces puedo sentir que es gratuito, pero si lo miro desde lejos…es Élite”.
By November, discussing season six, he set out his personal criterion more directly: he had no problem with sex scenes when they made sense and were not gratuitous. He also welcomed a respite in that season. FormulaTV reported his comments on 7 November 2022.

“No tengo problema con las escenas de sexo, siempre que sienta que tienen un sentido y que no son gratuitas”.
These remarks are not necessarily a reversal. In April, Ríos was describing how the show’s sexual material could look; in November, he was explaining what made such a scene work for him. Together, they suggest he did not reject the scenes outright, but valued story purpose and appreciated a break from them in season six.

His comments on body visibility
In the same April 2022 GQ interview, responding to a question about casting and body ideals, Ríos supported showing different body types and said he found beauty in all kinds of physiques. That comment was about representation, not a separate claim about how a particular nude scene was filmed.
