In a birthday video posted on 29 August 2024, Liam Payne said he was looking forward to speaking with his son Bear, who was “getting so big” and looked like a “mini-me.” Payne died in Buenos Aires on 16 October 2024, several weeks later. The available reporting does not establish the video as his last update about Bear or their last communication.
What Liam Payne said about Bear
In its report published on 30 August 2024, The Independent quoted Payne discussing his 31st birthday and his son in a video he had posted the previous day:
“I didn’t get any dad socks yet thought. I’m going to speak to my son in a little bit which I’m really excited about. Bless him. He’s getting so big now. He’s a big boy and he looks like a mini-me. As if we needed any more me in the world.”
The “mini-me” line was a playful remark in the birthday-video context. Payne said he was excited to speak with Bear shortly; the report does not establish whether or how that conversation took place.

When the video was posted—and what happened later
The Independent said Payne posted the video on 29 August 2024. The Associated Press reported that Payne died in Buenos Aires on 16 October 2024, aged 31. The birthday-video remarks therefore came several weeks before his death—not after it.
The Independent identifies Bear as Payne’s son with former partner Cheryl Tweedy. In a statement reported by AP on 17 October 2024, Cheryl described Bear as their seven-year-old son; that age refers to the 2024 context.

Was this Liam Payne’s last update about Bear?
The cited reporting describes a birthday-video update from August 2024, but does not establish it as Payne’s last public update about Bear or his last communication with his son. It is best understood as one specific, dated public remark rather than a definitive final message.

Payne had also shared a photograph involving Bear in March 2024, according to Us Weekly. The outlet reported that Bear was looking at a Spotify poster for Payne’s song “Teardrops.” That was a distinct earlier post, not part of the August birthday video.
