He said he and creator Mike White had few conversations about Jack’s ending, then guessed that Jack might be furious or even “go on a rampage” after learning Quentin was dead. That was Woodall’s speculation—not a future the show confirms.
What happens to Jack in the finale?
Jack survives. After using Portia as a distraction while Quentin and his associates pursue their plan against Tanya, he takes her phone and drives her away. He eventually drops her near the airport and warns her to get away. Jack is not on the yacht when the violence unfolds, and the finale does not show what he does afterward. TV Guide’s post-finale interview with Woodall recounts Jack’s departure and survival; TIME’s finale analysis describes his role in helping Quentin get Tanya alone.
What did Leo Woodall think Jack would do?
Woodall imagined Jack would be angry and deeply upset when he found out Quentin had died. He added, “Maybe he’d go on a rampage. Who knows? It’s out in the universe now.” The uncertainty matters: the finale gives no answer about when Jack learns of the deaths, how he reacts, or what becomes of him.
Woodall also said there “weren’t loads of conversations about it” with White. His comments offer an actor’s reading of the character, not confirmation of a planned continuation or canonical ending for Jack.

Why does Jack let Portia go?
Woodall saw Jack’s decision to leave Portia near the airport as a small act of conscience. Jack had been distracting and controlling her as part of Quentin’s plan, but eventually chose not to keep her trapped in the danger around him. As Woodall put it, “One choice is to kind of betray someone that he feels he owes a lot to, or the other choice is to do what he knows is actually the right thing.” He thought Jack had developed a soft spot for Portia and did not want her caught in the “catastrophic mess.”
What did Woodall imagine about Jack’s past?
The script did not supply Woodall with a specific backstory for Jack. In the TV Guide interview, he described his own interpretation: Jack had been in a dark place and was not doing well when Quentin took an interest in him. Woodall saw their bond as transactional, while also believing Jack cared about Quentin. Those details are his characterization, not facts established by the series.

What remains unresolved about Jack and Quentin?
The show leaves uncertainty around their relationship as well as Jack’s future. In TheWrap’s coverage of Episode 5, actor Tom Hollander described the story’s increasingly blurred line between what is real and what is not. He pointed to questions viewers could ask about whether Jack was a grifter, whether he was really Quentin’s nephew, and how to understand the relationship’s mixture of abuse and transaction. Hollander called the story a “hall of mirrors”; his comments describe its ambiguity rather than settle it with a definitive label.
That uncertainty sits beside a clear plot fact: Jack helped Quentin keep Portia occupied while the plan against Tanya proceeded. Mike White’s post-finale explanation offers context for the danger: White said Tanya’s arc was conceived as a journey toward death, but he wanted her to fight back before dying during the chaotic escape from the yacht. He felt that her final fight gave her a kind of victory over those conspiring against her. The explanation clarifies Tanya’s ending, not Jack’s next move.
