Kristi Noem objected to South Park’s jokes about her appearance after the show depicted a cartoon version of her in an ICE recruitment storyline. In an August 2025 interview with Glenn Beck, she called the jokes “lazy” and “petty,” said the show could criticize her work instead, and said she had not watched the episode.
What did Kristi Noem say about South Park?
Noem called into Glenn Beck’s radio show on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the day after the episode aired. TVLine quoted her saying: “It never ends, but it’s so lazy to constantly make fun of women for how they look.” She added: “If they wanted to criticize my job, go ahead and do that, but clearly they can’t. They just pick something petty like that.” TVLine’s August 8 report and The Guardian’s account both report her objection to the appearance jokes and her distinction between that material and criticism of her work.

Noem also said she had not watched the episode. TVLine quoted her explanation that she was occupied “going over budget numbers and stuff.” Her remarks were a response to the show’s satire; they were not a claim that its animated events had happened.
Which South Park episode depicted Noem?
The episode aired on August 6, 2025, and was titled “Introducing the Director of Homeland Security.” Its story recruits Mr. Mackey into ICE and depicts Noem in a recruitment context. Contemporary reports vary in how they number the episode, while the official Paramount+ listing displays conflicting season-and-episode numbering. The title and air date are the clearest identifiers; see the Paramount+ South Park listing.

What was the episode satirizing?
One gag about Noem shooting puppies alludes to her account in her memoir, No Going Back, that she killed her young dog Cricket after describing the dog as aggressive. South Park turned that real-world account into cartoon satire. The episode also made appearance-related jokes, including a melting-face depiction and beauticians reapplying her face; these are fictional comic scenes, not documentary footage.

How many people watched the episode?
The Associated Press reported that Comedy Central described the Noem episode as having “the highest audience share in the show’s history.” Audience share means the percentage of people with televisions on who were watching South Park. The AP report gave no numerical share, rating, or viewer count, so there is no figure to quote from that account. Read the AP report.
