In a July 22, 2024 interview with io9, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Deadpool & Wolverine was built to respect Logan, called the film an “8” on the interviewer’s MCU-impact scale, and described future Avengers stories as requiring choices about which characters to include. He also discussed the next Spider-Man movie and a possible mix of familiar and new X-Men characters. These are his remarks at the time, not updates on project status in 2026.
How Deadpool & Wolverine handles Logan
Asked whether the connection to Logan had changed during development, Feige said the film had gone through many incarnations. The guiding idea, he said, was not to undo, erase or besmirch the earlier film’s legacy. “We didn’t want to undo anything from that movie, Logan. We didn’t want to erase it. We didn’t want to, in any way, besmirch the honor of that great feature.”

That is a statement of creative intent, not a claim that the films have no continuity complications. Feige described the approach to the earlier film’s legacy in the July 22 interview; he did not frame it as a detailed continuity rule.
What Feige meant by calling the film an “8”
The number came in response to the interviewer’s comparison scale: Avengers: Endgame was set at 10 and Avengers: Infinity War at 9, before Feige was asked where Deadpool & Wolverine stood for overall MCU impact. He replied, “8?”

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
It was Feige’s answer to that question, not a measured rating, box-office forecast or formal ranking from Marvel Studios.
Why future Avengers films will leave characters out
Feige said the next Avengers stories would need to focus on a manageable group rather than trying to include every Marvel character. “We’re going to tell a story in these Avengers movies, and there won’t be room for 100,000 characters in it.” He added that a character’s absence from those films would not mean that character could never return.

His point was about the limits of a particular story, not a list of confirmed appearances or exclusions.
What Feige said about Spider-Man in July 2024
Feige said he and producer Amy Pascal were working on the next Spider-Man movie and that writers were expected to deliver a draft relatively soon. That describes the project’s development as he discussed it on July 22, 2024. The interview does not establish its status in 2026.

Feige’s outlook for the X-Men
A mix of familiar and new characters
Asked about the future of the X-Men in the MCU, Feige pointed to a broad pool of possibilities: characters from Deadpool & Wolverine, the Fox-era X-Men films, and characters who had not yet appeared on the big screen. “You probably see a mix of characters you’ve seen before and characters you’ve never seen before.” He was describing an approach, not confirming a cast, plot or release date.
Why the X-Men ’97 response mattered
Feige said Marvel was excited by the reception to X-Men ’97. He also singled out the X-Men world’s “soap opera elements” as part of its appeal: the relationships and ongoing personal conflicts that give the team stories beyond its superpowers. His comments suggest what Marvel finds compelling about the material, but do not specify how a future live-action project will use it.

In a separate interview published by The Walt Disney Company on July 25, 2024, Feige described the X-Men rights as becoming available to Marvel after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox. That is Disney’s account of the corporate context, not a new casting or project announcement. Read the Disney interview.

Feige said he was honored to have a LEGO minifigure of himself and recalled seeing it in an Avengers Tower display at Marvel Studios’ office. The interview does not identify that tower as a retail LEGO model or give a set number, so the anecdote alone cannot establish which product it was.
