Kate Winslet has spoken warmly about Titanic’s script and Jack and Rose’s love story, while remembering the production as exceptionally difficult. Her interviews do not establish that she regretted or disliked her performance: she has described what she loved about the material, what the shoot taught her, and how the film changed her life and career—not delivered a clear verdict on her finished acting.

What Winslet said she loved about Titanic

In BAFTA’s A Life in Pictures interview, Winslet recalled being drawn to the script and to the relationship between Jack and Rose. “I just loved the script and I loved the part,” she said, adding that she thought the love story was “amazing.” Those remarks show affection for the material and her role; they are not a claim that she considered every aspect of her on-screen performance flawless.

She remembered the shoot as extraordinary—and very hard

Winslet also described making the film as “this completely extraordinary experience, but very, very hard. Really very hard.” The comment captures the contrast in her recollection: she valued the experience, but did not portray the production as easy. It is a statement about making the film, not a negative assessment of her acting in it.

How Titanic changed her career

In an interview with Terry Gross for NPR’s Fresh Air, Winslet said the seven-month shoot taught her a great deal about acting and filmmaking. She also said the film changed her private life and career and gave her freedom of choice. At the same time, she did not feel ready for the scale of the career that followed and gravitated toward smaller films.

That is a retrospective account of the film’s impact and of her response to sudden opportunity. It does not, by itself, answer whether she likes her performance now.

Her comment about dated effects was not about her acting

A transcript hosted by the British Council records Winslet saying that some of the film’s once-pioneering visual effects look “clunky” now. The observation is about effects and how filmmaking technology can age; it should not be recast as criticism of her performance or as a dismissal of the film.

Why her Titanic comments keep resurfacing

In a 60 Minutes interview with Cecilia Vega, whose transcript was updated January 25, 2026, Winslet noted that remarks she makes about another film can be overshadowed by the takeaway about Titanic. That helps explain why the movie recurs in coverage of her career, but it is not a judgment on how she acted in it.

So, did Kate Winslet regret her Titanic performance?

The interviews cited here do not support saying that she regretted or disliked her performance. They show that she loved the script and the central relationship, found the production very hard, and learned from the shoot; they also show how dramatically the film altered her career. Those are meaningful reflections, but none is a categorical assessment of her finished performance.
