In a February 2023 podcast interview, she recalled being deeply in love with Chris Robinson and said he taught her what unconditional love felt like. In a separate 2024 interview, she said marrying him was “not a mistake.”
What Hudson said in the 2023 interview
Hudson discussed Robinson on the February 9, 2023 episode of You’re Doing Fine… Just Keep Going, hosted by Erin and Sara Foster. Entertainment Tonight reported on the conversation the following day. Hudson recalled meeting Robinson when she was 20 and returning from a trip with the conviction that she would marry him. As ET quoted her: “I’m madly in love and I want to marry him and so I just didn’t think twice.”
She also described herself as someone who “just like jump[s] in the deep end” of what she does. Hudson said Robinson taught her “what it felt like to be unconditionally loved.” Although she acknowledged that their relationship became complicated, she called that experience the most important moment. These remarks are reported by Entertainment Tonight; the outlet’s story is a report of the interview, not a full transcript.
When they married and divorced
Hudson was 21 when she married Robinson on New Year’s Eve in 2000. They later divorced in 2007 and share a son, Ryder Robinson, according to Entertainment Tonight. The timeline helps explain why Hudson’s 2023 recollection focused on the intensity of her early feelings rather than presenting the marriage as something she wished had not happened.

What she said about the marriage in 2024
Hudson revisited the relationship in May 2024 on Alex Cooper’s podcast Call Her Daddy. The Independent reported that she said they were engaged four months after meeting and married nine months after meeting. Looking back on the decision, Hudson said it was “not a mistake” and described the marriage as a “wonderfully passionate relationship.” She also said it went into a downward spiral after she wanted a baby. These are separate, later reflections, as reported by The Independent.
Her earlier comments about staying connected
In an August 2008 interview with W Magazine, Hudson said Robinson would remain in her life because they had a child together: “I married Chris, I had a baby with Chris, Chris will be in my life for the rest of my life.” She also spoke about keeping him important in their son’s life. The remark is historical context, rather than a new statement about the marriage; it appears in W Magazine.
