Justin Baldoni described making It Ends with Us as challenging because he was directing the film while also playing Ryle. His remark that “friction” can create art was a general reflection on filmmaking; in the quoted passage, he did not identify a co-worker or say it proved a specific feud.
What Baldoni said about friction
In an interview with ELLE UK, quoted in an August 13, 2024 report by Just Jared, Baldoni spoke about the demands of making the film while acting in it. He described the challenge of directing and playing Ryle at the same time, and the filmmaker’s work of navigating different personalities.
“Then at the end of the day, it’s that friction, I believe, that creates the beautiful art.”
In context, “friction” was his broad description of creative work and the tensions that can arise while making a film. The quoted remarks do not name anyone as the source of that friction. Baldoni also characterized the experience as hard but worthwhile and said he grew as a filmmaker, actor and person; those are his reflections on the production, not evidence of how other people experienced it.

Did he say who the friction was with?
No. The passage reported by Just Jared does not identify a person, describe a specific incident or establish the cause of any tension. Reports of cast tension were circulating around the time of the interview, but the line itself cannot verify a particular feud or connect one person to it.
How the later legal settlement fits in
The film later became the subject of a legal dispute between Blake Lively and Baldoni. The Associated Press reported that Lively accused Baldoni of harassment and retaliation, while Baldoni denied wrongdoing and brought counterclaims. The AP also reported that a judge had dismissed claims on both sides before the parties reached a settlement. The settlement’s terms were not disclosed.

A settlement is not a court finding that either side’s disputed allegations were true. In a joint statement quoted by the AP, the parties said: “Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors — and all survivors — is a goal that we stand behind.”
The Associated Press’s settlement report provides that later context; it does not change what Baldoni’s earlier “friction” comment does or does not establish.
