He was discharged on June 12, 2024, after approximately 18 months of service. The remark looked ahead to his return; it was not an announcement that he had already resumed work.
What did Jin mean by “start working”?
In a New Year video message to fans, Jin said, “I’ll grow my hair quickly this year and I’ll be able to start working hard soon.” Billboard reported the wording, which was surfaced in a syndicated Radio X report on January 2, 2024. The quotation is therefore best understood as a reported line from the video, not as text verified here against an official transcript. Radio X’s report of Billboard’s coverage

Jin was still completing active Army service when he made the remark. It expressed anticipation about returning to work after discharge, but did not specify a project, a release date, or a detailed work schedule.
When did Jin finish military service?
BIGHIT MUSIC said Jin was close to completing active Army service and asked fans not to visit the discharge site. The agency stated, “No special events are planned on the day of Jin’s discharge.” A contemporaneous report dates his discharge to June 12, 2024, after approximately 18 months of service following his December 2022 enlistment; it also identified him as the first BTS member to complete service. What happened after his discharge?
The discharge itself and Jin’s fan event were separate occasions. On June 13, 2024, the day after the reported discharge date, BIGHIT MUSIC held an official FESTA event led by Jin. It included an in-person greeting session and a separate Weverse live session. BIGHIT MUSIC’s FESTA notice on Weverse
Later solo-stage material provides another way to follow Jin’s work after service. BIGHIT MUSIC described Jin “#RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR in GOYANG” The Original as a physical set containing a 180-page photobook and a digital code for a 116-minute Goyang concert video, with 4K playback. The notice listed Amazon among planned retailers and specified different regional release dates, so availability can vary by location and may have changed since the announcement. Jin’s January 2024 comment was about his own anticipated return to work. It should not be treated as a statement about when BTS would make music together. In October 2022, BIGHIT MUSIC said the members would fulfill their military-service commitments and expressed hope for full-group activity “around 2025,” while noting that precise timing was not settled. That was the agency’s expectation at the time, not a confirmed current schedule. BIGHIT MUSIC’s 2022 announcement

By July 2025, Yonhap reported that all BTS members had completed mandatory service. During a group livestream, RM said, “From July, we plan to start working together and focus on making music,” and announced a new album for the following spring. BIGHIT MUSIC later announced BTS’s fifth album for March 20, 2026, with 14 tracks, and a world tour following the release; the notice said a separate tour schedule announcement would follow.
