What Jenny Slate Said About Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively

Unsealed-record reporting documented Jenny Slate’s critical texts and testimony about Justin Baldoni. That is distinct from a public endorsement of all of Blake Lively’s claims, which settled before trial.

Jenny Slate’s testimony and private text messages reported from unsealed court records were critical of Justin Baldoni. They do not, by themselves, establish that Slate publicly endorsed every part of Blake Lively’s allegations. Lively and Baldoni later settled their civil case before trial, so the claims were not decided by a trial verdict.

What did Jenny Slate say about Justin Baldoni?

Slate, who played Lively’s character’s best friend in It Ends With Us, testified that Baldoni called Lively “hot” and “sexy.” Slate said she flagged the comments. She also testified that Baldoni later told her she looked “sexy” in her clothing.

In deposition testimony reported by Variety on January 21, 2026, Slate said: “I assumed there was an understanding of — ‘We’re not doing this anymore.’” She added: “It’s not appropriate anymore. It never was appropriate, but it’s not appropriate in a workplace.” These were statements in her testimony, not a new public comment made at the time of the events.

What the reported texts said

Variety also reported that private text messages from the unsealed records described Baldoni as a “false ally” and criticized his cultivated “male feminist” image. One message called him “the biggest clown and the most intense narcissist.” Those excerpts show Slate’s criticism in private messages; they should be read as reported messages, not as a judicial finding about Baldoni.

Did Slate publicly support Blake Lively’s full account?

The cited reporting establishes that Slate criticized Baldoni in her messages and testimony. It does not establish a new public statement in which she explicitly endorsed every part of Lively’s account. Lively alleged misconduct and retaliation; Baldoni denied harassing her and denied orchestrating a smear campaign. Slate’s reported views should not be treated as proof of allegations she was not reported as addressing.

How did the Lively-Baldoni case end?

Lively and Baldoni settled their civil case in May 2026 before a scheduled trial. The terms were not disclosed. In a joint statement reported by the Associated Press, they said Lively’s concerns “deserved to be heard” and that they remained committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. The statement also said: “Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors — and all survivors — is a goal that we stand behind.”

Rank #2

Because the case settled before trial, the underlying allegations were not resolved by a trial verdict. The settlement statement does not itself determine the truth of either side’s contested claims.

The separate attorney-fee award

In August 2026, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman awarded Lively $363,245 in attorney fees and $44,206 in costs, according to the Associated Press. That was less than the roughly $8 million she had sought. The post-settlement ruling addressed fees and costs; it was not a verdict on the alleged conduct.

What is It Ends With Us?

The film, released in August 2024, was adapted from Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name, as the Associated Press reported. Slate played the best friend of Lively’s character in the film.
