Jeff Bezos was reported to have congratulated his former wife, MacKenzie Scott, after news broke in March 2021 that she had married Seattle science teacher Dan Jewett. Forbes quoted Bezos as saying, “Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them.”
Bezos’s reported response
In a March 7, 2021, report, Forbes said the statement came from Bezos through an Amazon spokesperson. Its wording was: “Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them.”
The Washington Post also reported a congratulatory statement that day, quoting Bezos as saying: “Dan is such a great guy, and I’m happy and excited for the both of them,” according to its account. The two reports differ slightly in the contraction: Forbes printed “I am,” while The Washington Post printed “I’m.”
What was reported about the marriage
The contemporaneous reports said Scott had married Jewett, a Seattle science teacher. March 7 was the date both stories were published, not an established wedding date. The Washington Post said the exact date of the marriage was unclear.

What the statement establishes
The coverage documents a public reaction attributed to Bezos; it does not establish anything beyond the words reported by the publications. The accounts identify Bezos as Scott’s former husband and attribute the statement to him, but the quotation was not located in a direct publication from Bezos or Amazon.
