The post was a tease, not the studio’s formal confirmation. The distinction matters: the caption fueled the conversation, while Disney later announced production separately.
Is Freaky Friday 2 happening?
Yes. Disney announced that production had begun on a sequel to the 2003 film, with Curtis and Lohan returning. Disney described the follow-up as taking place years after the original and as “a sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist.” That is Disney’s description of the story. Disney’s announcement is the source for the production news and returning stars.

What is the sequel called?
Disney’s official title is Freakier Friday, rather than Freaky Friday 2. The latter is a convenient shorthand for the sequel, but Disney’s film page uses Freakier Friday.
