He thanked his family and medical team, addressed rumors about his condition, and said he was working toward recovery. Foxx disclosed more in December 2024, when he said in his Netflix special that a brain bleed had led to a stroke.
What did Jamie Foxx say in the July 2023 video?
Foxx posted a video addressing his hospitalization and recovery; CBS reported on it on July 22, 2023. He described going through something he had never expected, thanked his sister, daughter Corinne, and medical staff, and pushed back against rumors that he was blind or paralyzed. As CBS quoted him: “Said I was paralyzed, I’m not paralyzed.” CBS News’ July 22, 2023 report covered the video.

ABC reported that Foxx described the road back as having “some potholes” and said he was able to work again. He also said, “I am on my way back.” ABC News’ report covered that update.
Did he explain the cause of his hospitalization in that video?
No. Foxx did not name a diagnosis or explain the medical cause in the July 2023 video. At the time, his daughter Corinne had described the situation as a “medical complication,” and CBS reported that he had been hospitalized in April for an undisclosed reason. The video offered an update on his recovery, not an explanation of what had happened.

What did Foxx disclose later?
In his Netflix special What Had Happened Was…, Foxx gave a fuller account. Netflix Tudum’s December 11, 2024 coverage reports that Foxx said he had suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke. He recalled that the emergency began with a bad headache on April 11, 2023: “April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for Aspirin,” as quoted by Netflix Tudum.
That disclosure came more than a year after the video. It should not be read back into the July 2023 update: Foxx did not identify a brain bleed or stroke in that video. Netflix’s account describes what Foxx said in his special; the cited coverage does not provide independent medical records.
