On December 13, 2024, James Kennedy’s attorneys said they were conducting their own investigation into allegations reported by Burbank police and hoped the city attorney would not file formal charges. Their statement also said, “We understand that there were no injuries”—a claim attributed to the lawyers, not an independent finding.
What Kennedy’s attorneys said
The Law Offices of Scott E. Leemon P.C. gave its statement to Extra, which published it on December 13, 2024. The firm said: “We are in the process of conducting our own investigation into the allegations levied by the Burbank Police Department against James.”
The firm continued: “We understand that there were no injuries and we are hoping that, after careful review, the city’s attorneys will decide not to file formal charges.” The no-injuries wording represents the law firm’s stated understanding; it should not be treated as an independently established medical or police finding. Extra’s December 13 report quoted the statement.
What police had reported
The Associated Press reported that Burbank police responded late on December 10, 2024, to a report of an argument between a man and a woman. Citing Burbank Police Sgt. Stephen Turner, AP said police determined it was a domestic incident. Kennedy was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence and released after posting bail. AP reported at the time that the Burbank City Attorney would decide whether charges would be filed. An arrest on suspicion is not proof of guilt. The Associated Press report was published December 12, 2024.

How the statements differ
- Police account, reported by AP: describes the call, police response, and arrest on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence.
- Attorneys’ statement, reported by Extra: says the firm was conducting its own investigation, conveys its understanding that there were no injuries, and expresses hope that formal charges would not be filed.
The attorneys’ statement is a position expressed during an investigation, not a police determination or a court ruling. The contemporaneous reporting cited here does not establish whether charges were later filed or what the eventual case disposition was.

On December 17, Kennedy posted a separate statement, reported by the Los Angeles Times on December 18. He wrote, “I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life,” and referred to sobriety, personal growth, and loved ones. Those personal comments came after the lawyers’ December 13 statement and do not establish a legal outcome. The Los Angeles Times report covered his remarks.
