The curve cut—also called the C cut—is a layered hairstyle shaped so face-framing sections turn inward into a soft C. It can be adapted to different lengths, from a bob to long hair. In 2025, beauty outlets connected the look with Jennifer Aniston, describing her layered style as a modern or “soft” Rachel. That is an editorial comparison, not a claim that Aniston named the cut or that it topped a measured popularity ranking.
What is the curve cut?
The defining feature is the outline: face-framing layers curve inward, while longer layers cascade toward the back. Hairstylists describe it as a flexible shape rather than one fixed length or a single, precise salon formula. The shortest pieces may begin near the chin or jaw, or the framing can start elsewhere depending on the desired result and the hair’s length.
Because the name describes the shape more than a particular length, a curve cut can be worked into a bob or longer hair. The amount of layering and how strongly the ends turn inward also change the finished look.
Why was it linked to Jennifer Aniston?
In August 2025, Cosmopolitan described Aniston in an Instagram video promoting LolaVie dry shampoo with a longer, layered style whose sections curved inward. Woman & Home presented the look as a softer, more polished update on The Rachel, while British Vogue called it a “soft Rachel.” These are publications’ descriptions of her appearance; they do not establish that Aniston herself called it a curve cut.

The comparison makes sense because the original Rachel was a visibly layered, shoulder-length style Aniston wore as Rachel Green on Friends. In British Vogue, hairstylist Luke Hersheson characterized the original cut as visibly layered. Fashionista identifies Chris McMillan as the stylist who created The Rachel. The curve cut borrows the layered, face-framing impression, but it is not necessarily a replica of that specific 1990s haircut.
“Hairstyle of choice” is trend framing, not a substantiated ranking: the cited coverage offers no representative survey, sales measure, or comparison showing that the curve cut was the most chosen celebrity hairstyle in 2025.

How to ask for a curve cut at the salon
Use the name as a starting point, then describe the shape you want. Hairstylist advice reported by NewBeauty emphasizes tailoring the cut rather than relying on the label alone. Bring reference photos that show the length and layering you like, and discuss:
- Finished length: where you want the overall cut to fall, whether it is a bob or longer.
- Where framing begins: for example, around the chin or jaw, or higher or lower to suit your preferred outline.
- How much layering you want: subtle blending or more noticeable, cascading layers toward the back.
- The curve and volume: how inward the ends should turn and how much bounce you want.
- Your routine and texture: how your hair naturally behaves and how much blow-drying you are willing to do.
Matt Taylor, Senior Stylist at Hadley Yates, says the face-framing can be adjusted around the cheekbones for different face shapes, as reported by Woman & Home. Treat that as a tailoring option to discuss with your stylist, not a rule that restricts the cut to particular face shapes.

How to style the layers at home
A round brush is the most directly supported tool for shaping the cut’s rounded ends. Use it while blow-drying to guide the face-framing sections and ends inward; the result will depend on your hair and the shape your stylist created.
NewBeauty reports that stylist Justine Marjan suggests a hair dryer and ceramic round brush for a bouncy finish. Clariss Rubenstein recommends a round brush and mentions Nexxus Prep and Protect as an optional prep spray. These are styling suggestions, not products required to have or maintain a curve cut.
