teamLab Borderless is a digital art museum in Tokyo where artworks can move between spaces, connect with one another and, in some cases, respond to visitors. There is no map or fixed route: you explore by wandering, while selected experiences let you add a drawing or interact through the museum’s app.
What is teamLab Borderless in Tokyo?
teamLab Borderless: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM is at Azabudai Hills in Minato, Tokyo. It first opened in Odaiba in 2018 and reopened at its current location in 2024. The museum describes itself as “a world of art without boundaries, a museum without a map” on its official visitor page.
The idea is not simply that the rooms contain large digital displays. The artworks are designed to move across spaces, interact with one another and sometimes intermingle. teamLab Borderless’s official FAQ describes the experience as “wander, explore, and discover in one continuous world without boundaries.” That is the museum’s own description of its concept.
How does the map-free experience work?
There is no provided map or prescribed sequence of rooms. Visitors find works by walking through the venue, and an artwork encountered in one area may travel into another or affect what appears there. The changing arrangement makes wandering part of the visit rather than a route between fixed installations.

The museum does not place artwork captions in the venue because works move across spaces. Its app can show the concept of a nearby work, and it supports participation in Infinite Crystal World. The app is one way to get context, but it does not turn every artwork into an interactive one.
Is teamLab Borderless interactive?
Yes, in specific ways: some works invite visitors to contribute or use an app function, while others primarily change or move as part of the digital environment. Participation varies by artwork, so it is more accurate to think of the museum as a changing world with selected interactive experiences than as a place where every display is controlled by visitors.

Sketch Ocean
In Sketch Ocean, visitors color a fish or another creature; the drawing then appears in a shared digital ocean with creations from other visitors. Creatures can travel across artwork boundaries. The result is a collective scene rather than a private drawing confined to a screen.
Infinite Crystal World
The museum app supports certain interactive functions in Infinite Crystal World. This is a specific app-supported experience, not a claim that the app controls the museum as a whole.

EN TEA HOUSE
At EN TEA HOUSE, a digital flower blooms in a cup of tea. The museum says flowers continue to bloom for as long as there is tea in the cup.
What should visitors know before booking?
- Check the date before you go. Opening hours and closure dates vary. Last entry is one hour before closing, and tickets are for a specific date and time. Check the official visitor page and ticket calendar for your planned visit.
- Book ahead if the date matters. Tickets can sell out, and adult prices are dynamic. Tickets generally cannot be canceled; the official ticketing-site terms allow limited date or time changes for qualifying direct purchases.
- Plan for a no-re-entry visit. Re-entry is not permitted, so allow time for the visit before leaving.
- Check which works are available. Some may be unavailable because of crowds or maintenance, and works or specifications can vary by season.
- Know the rules for photography. Photography and social posting are allowed, but flash, lighting equipment, tripods, selfie sticks and other photographic aids at least 30 cm long are restricted.
- For children: Elementary-school-aged children and younger must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older. The museum specifies one adult per five children.
- Facilities: The venue lists two rest areas and says it has no nursing room.

What else can visitors take away?
At the onsite Sketch Factory, visitors can purchase physical items made from drawings, including badges, hand towels, T-shirts, tote bags, papercraft, puzzles, stickers and magnets. The museum’s official FAQ also reports more than four million visitors from more than 185 countries as of July 31, 2026. Those are dated milestones, not live totals.
