How is it connected to “Message in a Bottle”?
“Another Part of Me” draws on The Police’s “Message in a Bottle,” a 1979 song written and sung by Sting. The Associated Press identifies it as the source of the sample. That makes the new track a sample-based recording, not a newly released Snoop Dogg version titled “Message in a Bottle” or a straight remake of The Police song.
#1 Best Overall
- Sting's first pop album since the end of the Police, Ten Summoner's Tales gave birth to "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" among others
Sting’s official catalog identifies “Message in a Bottle” as the first single from The Police’s Reggatta de Blanc and documents a 7-inch single with “Landlord” on the B-side. Sting’s catalog entry covers the original single; the AP report explains its connection to the newer track.

Sting contributed directly: AP reports that he sang and played guitar on “Another Part of Me.” In AP’s interview, Sting said, “He asked me to sing a verse, which is difficult.” He described the vocal challenge this way: “It’s a different style from the one I normally sing. It’s a very, very rapid rap style, which is kind of challenging for me. But I love a challenge.”
Rank #2
- Note that title: it's the Best of 25 Years, Sting's career-encompassing box set, not a greatest-hits album, so this 12-song collection misses some hit singles. That said, the big ones are here -- "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free," "We'll Be Together," "Fragile," "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" -- along with a couple of choice album tracks and Police live cuts that make this a solid sampler of Sting's solo work. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine...

AP also reports that Snoop Dogg and Sting performed the song on The Voice. The report described it as Sting’s first meeting with Snoop. The Associated Press report is the source for Sting’s performance details, the interview quotations, and the television appearance.
