Brazilian actress Millena Brandão died at 11 on May 2, 2025, at Hospital Geral do Grajaú in São Paulo. The hospital reported that brain death was confirmed after its diagnostic protocol. A forensic report later identified a cerebral abscess as the cause of death, but did not establish what led to the infection.
What happened to Millena Brandão?
According to the hospital statement reported by CNN Brasil, Brandão arrived at Hospital Geral do Grajaú in critical condition on April 29, 2025, after being transferred from UPA Maria Antonieta. The hospital said her family was kept informed during her care.
On May 2, the hospital confirmed brain death at 16:55 after completing the required diagnostic protocol. SBT News reported her death that day. CNN Brasil’s report of May 2, updated May 3, reproduces the hospital statement; SBT News also reported her death.
What did the later forensic report say?
In a report published July 25 and updated July 28, 2025, CNN Brasil said the forensic report identified a cerebral abscess as the cause of death. It described the abscess as an inflammatory and infectious process, but did not clarify what caused the disease. CNN Brasil’s July report is the later account of the forensic finding.

Why did early reports mention a brain tumor?
SBT News reported on May 2 that Brandão had suffered multiple cardiorespiratory arrests and described a brain tumor measuring 5 centimeters. That was the wording in contemporaneous coverage. It should not be treated as the final forensic cause: CNN Brasil’s later account of the forensic report identifies a cerebral abscess. The July report says the document did not establish what led to that abscess.
Was there a police investigation?
On May 6, 2025, SBT News reported that São Paulo Civil Police had opened an inquiry into the circumstances of Brandão’s death and that a necropsy report was still being prepared at that time. The sources cited here do not establish the inquiry’s eventual outcome. SBT News’s May 6 report describes the status then, not a final finding.
