The title’s wordplay connects Alicia Keys’ husband, Swizz Beatz, with her song “Fallin’,” but Keys has not identified him as the person who inspired it. She describes the song as being about an earlier relationship and its swings between love and frustration.
What is “Fallin’” about?
Keys has described “Fallin’” as a personal account of a relationship she was in at the time. In a WIRED Autocomplete interview, she recalls repeatedly falling back in love with the person even as that relationship could drive her crazy: “sometimes I love you, sometimes you drive me crazy.”
In her Library of Congress interview, Keys describes the song as expressing her first serious relationship, which could feel very good and very bad. She said, “It was just like I just spoke right from the chest.” Neither account names the person in that earlier relationship.
Who is Alicia Keys’ husband?
In the WIRED interview, Keys identifies her husband as Kasseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean. That establishes who the headline means by “hubby,” not that he was the subject of “Fallin’.” Her explanations of the song point to a relationship she was in at the time, without identifying that person as Dean.

How did Keys write the song?
Keys says “Fallin’” opens her debut album, Songs in A Minor. In the Library of Congress interview, she recalls writing much of it while driving in New York, then developing its simple piano arpeggios. The songwriting detail fits the song’s direct, personal character without changing what she has said about its inspiration.
Why is “Fallin’” a defining early-career song?
A 2012 Billboard profile reported that “Fallin’” earned Keys her first five Grammy Awards, including best new artist and song of the year. That is dated career context; it does not establish who inspired the song.
