Alan Tudyk voices Robot #4, a mechanical assistant at Superman’s Fortress of Solitude who later goes by Gary. DC’s first film cast listing named Tudyk but did not identify his character; the studio’s later Easter-egg guide revealed the role.
Who does Alan Tudyk play in Superman?
DC’s Easter-egg guide identifies Tudyk as the voice of “Robot #4 (aka Gary).” The robots are Superman’s mechanical helpers at the Fortress of Solitude. Tudyk described Robot #4 as the leader among the prototypes: Superman’s earlier designs were imperfect, and the fourth became the one he considered ready to lead.
The film’s robot voices also include Michael Rooker, Grace Chen, Jennifer Holland, and Pom Klementieff, according to DC’s guide.
How did Robot #4 become Gary?
Gary’s name was not in the script. In an interview reported by The Direct on August 12, 2025, Tudyk said he wanted the robot to have a name and suggested “Gary” while filming. David Corenswet supported the idea, and director James Gunn agreed to shoot the line. Tudyk said he did not know it had made the final cut until after the premiere.

What is the comic-book connection?
DC says the film’s Superman Robots were heavily influenced by the robots in All-Star Superman. That points to a design influence, not proof that Gary is a direct adaptation of a named character or has a specific counterpart in the comic.
Why was the role called secret?
The secrecy was about the character credit, not a hidden plot twist: DC’s official film page listed Tudyk in the cast without naming his character, while the later Easter-egg guide identified him as Robot #4/Gary. The page names James Gunn as the film’s writer and director and gives July 11, 2025, as its US theatrical release date, with international release beginning July 9, 2025.
