Scroll reproduced these words on June 19, 2018, in a report about Khan’s interview with The Times of India. His remarks were a personal reflection on living with uncertainty—not a medical prognosis or advice to other patients. He also referred to prayers and support from people around the world.
How the news emerged
February and March 2018: an initial, limited statement
The Indian Express later reported that Khan’s spokesperson announced a severe case of jaundice on February 21, 2018. On March 5, Khan publicly referred to a “rare disease” and said he would share details once there was a conclusive diagnosis. A March 7 report said his team had asked people not to speculate about his health. The Indian Express’s March 2018 report records that earlier stage of the public account.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What his statement does—and does not—tell us
Khan’s words offer a first-person account of confronting an uncertain future. They do not establish details of his tumor site, cancer stage, treatment regimen, response to treatment or individual prognosis. Nor do his reflections show that a particular mindset changes cancer outcomes. The diagnosis and London treatment details above are contemporary reporting about Khan’s individual case, not a basis for drawing conclusions about other people with neuroendocrine cancer.
