The animated episode is part of Marvel’s multiverse anthology, in which familiar characters face alternate realities. Disney’s Season 3 press kit describes the season as the series’ culminating multiverse adventure. It began streaming on Disney+ on 22 December 2024, with a new episode released daily for eight nights.
What happens in “What If…Howard the Duck Got Hitched?”
Howard and Darcy’s unexpected family
During a party hosted by Thor on Earth, Howard the Duck marries Darcy Lewis. Their child arrives in an egg, leaving the new parents with a baby they cannot yet hold or see.
The egg becomes a cosmic prize
Howard and Darcy set off on an intergalactic pleasure cruise with the Grandmaster. The trip turns into a rescue mission when the egg is taken and rival groups begin pursuing it. The episode’s short official synopsis describes dangerous factions threatening the cruise; a fuller episode recap explains that the child was born during the Convergence, a rare alignment of the Nine Realms, which makes the egg cosmically significant to those factions.

Yondu takes the egg and delivers it to Kaecilius, who plans to use it as a host for Dormammu. S.H.I.E.L.D. also tries to secure it. Howard and Darcy recover their child and seek refuge with Loki on Jotunheim, but the pursuit continues: Laufey, Malekith, Zeus, Thanos, and the Black Order all become involved.
Byrdie hatches
The egg releases golden energy that subdues the pursuers, then hatches into Byrdie, a human-duck hybrid. Nick Fury ultimately accepts that Byrdie should remain with Howard and Darcy, and the family returns home.

Why the chase matters to the story
The comic escalation comes from treating an egg-shaped baby as a prize valuable enough to attract an extraordinary range of powerful factions. Beneath the absurdity, the plot is about two parents becoming more determined to protect their child as the danger grows. Byrdie’s arrival and Fury’s acceptance of the family’s place together provide the emotional resolution: the cosmic powers do not get to decide who raises her.
