Harrison Ford called Donald Trump “a greater criminal in history” in a Guardian interview published on 31 October 2025, criticizing the president’s climate-policy record and rhetoric. The phrase was Ford’s political opinion—not a court finding or an independently established legal conclusion.

What did Harrison Ford say about Trump?

Speaking with Guardian reporter Oliver Milman, Ford said Trump “doesn’t have any policies, he has whims” and that the situation scared him. He went on to say: “It’s unbelievable. I don’t know of a greater criminal in history.” The Guardian published the interview on 31 October 2025, shortly before Ford was due to receive a conservation leadership award at Chicago’s Field Museum. The Guardian’s interview report contains the full context.

“Criminal” here was Ford’s rhetorical condemnation of Trump’s conduct and climate-policy record. It was not a report of a criminal charge, conviction, or judicial determination.

Why did Ford criticize Trump?

The Guardian framed Ford’s remarks around the Trump administration’s second-term climate actions and statements as reported at the time: rollbacks of climate and clean-air protections, halted clean-energy projects, encouragement of fossil-fuel production, and skepticism about climate change. The report also recalled Trump’s September 2025 United Nations remark that climate change was “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world.” These details describe the Guardian’s account when it was published; they are not a current status update on policy in October 2026.

Ford also mocked Trump’s dislike of wind turbines, quipping that he had “just not seen a gold one.” He characterized the climate legacy he feared as “a clear expression of ignorance, of hubris and purposeful subterfuge.” Those descriptions, like the “criminal” line, were Ford’s judgments.

Ford’s criticism came with an argument for action

Ford said he had been “preaching this stuff for 30 years,” referring to his own stated duration of speaking about climate change—not to a scientific measurement. He questioned why decades of warnings had not changed behavior and blamed an “entrenched status quo.”

He was not fatalistic about what could still be done. Ford said he was confident people could mitigate climate change, buy time to change behavior, develop technologies, and implement policy if they applied political will and intellectual effort. “If we concentrate on a problem we can fix it most times,” he said. The Guardian’s report also described Ford as 83 at the time of publication, on 31 October 2025.

Where the remarks appeared

The comments came in a Guardian interview with Oliver Milman, rather than in a speech or a courtroom statement. A follow-up published by Variety on 1 November 2025 likewise identified the Guardian interview and noted the award setting. Variety’s follow-up provides that additional context.
