Spoiler warning: the trailer for Companion reveals that Sophie Thatcher’s character is a robot. That premise is central to the film, so viewers who want to discover it without warning should skip the trailer and this article.
What happens in the Companion trailer?
The trailer introduces a getaway involving a group of friends, including Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher’s characters. Its central shift comes when Thatcher’s character is revealed to be a robot girlfriend. The Associated Press notes that the trailer gives away this initial premise reveal; it does not need to reveal later developments for viewers to understand the film’s setup.

The film is a thriller written and directed by Drew Hancock. Warner Bros. Pictures identifies itself as the worldwide distributor. The official film site presents it as a new kind of love story, but that is promotional framing rather than a neutral description.
Who stars in Companion?
Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid are the two central stars. The ensemble also includes Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend, according to the official film site and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Does the trailer spoil the twist?
It spoils the initial robot-girlfriend reveal: the Associated Press review specifically observes that the trailer discloses the central robot premise. That is a meaningful surprise if you prefer to enter a thriller knowing as little as possible. The trailer’s reveal does not, by itself, establish what happens later in the story.
When was Companion released, and where can it be watched?
The official site lists a US nationwide theatrical release on January 31, 2025, with international releases beginning January 28, 2025. Warner Bros. Discovery later announced that the film would begin streaming exclusively on Max on April 18, 2025. Those are historical release details, not confirmation that the film is currently available in a particular country or on a particular plan. Check local listings for present access. Apple TV’s US listing identifies the Warner Bros. film, but a listing alone does not establish current access across regions.
