In September 2019, Google Search offered a playful Friends Easter egg for searches involving the sitcom’s characters. The Ross result featured his famous couch: clicking it repeatedly pivoted the screen until the couch split in two. The animation reportedly included sound, but the 2019 report does not establish whether the feature still works in Google Search today.
What happened when you Googled “Friends Ross”?
Chrome Unboxed reported on September 20, 2019, that Google had added character-specific Search animations for the 25th anniversary of Friends. Searching for “Friends Ross” reportedly displayed an interactive couch associated with Ross Geller.
Each click made the Search screen pivot. After several interactions, the couch broke into two pieces. The report also said the animations had sound, so users were advised to turn their audio on.
How the Ross Easter egg was reported to work
- Open Google Search.
- Search for Friends Ross.
- Look for the couch animation in the results.
- Click the couch repeatedly to trigger the screen-tilting effect and its final break-apart animation.
The exact placement and appearance described above came from the 2019 report and may not match current Search results.

Yes. The same report described separate clickable animations tied to the other main Friends characters. Each character received a different visual joke or interaction rather than one identical Ross-style effect.
Does the Ross couch Easter egg still work?
There is no confirmation in the cited September 20, 2019 report that Google has kept the Easter egg available. Treat it as a historical Search feature: trying the query today may produce ordinary results instead of the animation, depending on Google’s current interface, region, device and account settings.

Why the gag fits Ross
The couch is a reference to the Friends episode “The One with the Cop,” in which Ross repeatedly shouts “Pivot!” while trying to move a sofa up a staircase. Breaking the couch after repeated clicks turns that familiar scene into a short interactive joke.
