On July 20, 2023, Piers Morgan challenged vegan activist Tash Peterson on Piers Morgan Uncensored after she described animal slaughter as an “animal Holocaust.” Peterson defended the phrase as a reference to slaughter on a mass scale; Morgan objected that “Holocaust” refers to the Nazi genocide of more than six million Jewish people. The exchange was about comparing animal slaughter with the Holocaust—not, as the original title might suggest, comparing meat eaters themselves with Jewish victims.

Which programme featured the exchange?

The discussion took place on the July 20, 2023 episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, not Good Morning Britain. The transcript places the central exchange at approximately 00:41:15–00:44:21. PerthNow’s July 21 report and The Jewish Chronicle’s July 24 report also identify the appearance as an Uncensored segment.

What did Tash Peterson say?

Morgan questioned whether confrontational vegan activism, including protests that play recordings from abattoirs, could put people off veganism. Peterson replied that the actions bring attention to what she called the “animal Holocaust.” She defended the wording by saying, “If you look at the definition of a Holocaust, it is slaughter or destruction on a mass scale.”

In the exchange, Peterson was comparing the mass killing of animals with the Holocaust. The transcript does not establish a claim that people who eat meat are equivalent to Jews who were murdered.

Why did Piers Morgan object?

Morgan rejected Peterson’s use of the term and invoked its historical referent: “Holocaust is the mass extermination of more than six million Jewish people by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.” His objection was that applying the word to animal slaughter risks collapsing a specific genocide into a broader metaphor. The quotation is the host’s statement during the broadcast; it is not a substitute for historical scholarship.

The disagreement therefore involved more than dictionary wording. Peterson emphasized slaughter on a mass scale as the basis for her analogy; Morgan emphasized the Holocaust’s specific history and the harm he saw in using its name for another cause. The broadcast records their positions but does not resolve the ethical debate about whether such comparisons are justified.

What was Tomi Lahren’s position?

Commentator Tomi Lahren was also a guest. She rejected Peterson’s “animal Holocaust” characterization while expressing opposition to factory farming. She said, “Now, I’m against factory ranching and farming as well, by the way.” These are Lahren’s stated views in the interview, not evidence about farming practices generally.

What the exchange does—and does not—show

The segment documents a dispute over language, animal-rights activism, and the use of a historically specific atrocity as an analogy. It does not establish whether confrontational protest makes people more or less likely to adopt veganism, nor does it adjudicate claims about diet, animal welfare, or the scale of animal slaughter. Those questions require evidence beyond the televised argument.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism separately objected to the comparison, saying it risks minimizing the genocide of Jewish people. That is the organization’s position on the controversy, rather than a finding made by the programme. Its statement is available here.
