A young girl collapsed and appeared to faint during Mehmet Oz’s April 18, 2025, swearing-in as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the Oval Office. Oz rushed to her side, and the ceremony ended so she could receive medical care. The White House later said she was okay. Although the assignment headline identifies her as Oz’s granddaughter, the cited official account describes her only as a minor family member.
What happened in the Oval Office
President Donald Trump was speaking and taking reporters’ questions after Oz’s swearing-in when the girl collapsed. A contemporaneous press-pool account says Oz rushed over; the girl stood up but appeared unsteady, and reporters were directed to leave the Oval Office.
The official presidential transcript records that “The event ended in order to provide medical care to a participant.” It confirms that someone fainted and that the ceremony stopped, but it does not provide a name or describe the person’s relationship to Oz.
What the White House said
As reported by CBS News on April 18, 2025, the White House said: “A minor family member fainted during Dr. Oz’s swearing in ceremony in the Oval Office. We are happy to say she is okay.” That is the White House’s public description; it does not identify the family member more specifically.

Was the attendee Dr. Oz’s granddaughter?
The sources cited here do not independently confirm that the girl was Oz’s granddaughter. The White House statement calls her a “minor family member,” while the official transcript refers only to a participant. The safest verified description is therefore “a minor family member” or “a young girl,” not a confirmed granddaughter.
