Agatha All Along shows a Westview population sign reading 2,251—42% fewer than the earlier sign, according to TVLine. But the series does not definitively explain the difference: showrunner Jac Schaeffer called the possible mass departure a production discussion, not canon. The clearest answer is that Westview may have been changed by the trauma of Wanda’s Hex, while the fate of individual residents remains unknown.
What the population sign says
In episode 2 of Agatha All Along, a welcome sign gives Westview’s population as 2,251. TVLine reports that this is 42% below the figure on the earlier sign. These are fictional on-screen figures; the percentage is TVLine’s comparison, not a real-world demographic count.

Asked about the apparent drop, showrunner and executive producer Jac Schaeffer said the production had discussed whether people might leave after the Hex. She described the general atmosphere as traumatic, but cautioned, “Don’t take this as canon…” She also said, “We don’t show a lot of that, but the general vibe is that [the hex] was a traumatizing experience,” as TVLine reported in 2024: TVLine’s interview with Schaeffer.
So the sign is an onscreen clue; a trauma-driven exodus is a possible interpretation, not a confirmed account of what happened to every resident. The series does not identify who left, establish exactly how many moved away, or say that Wanda’s climactic fight killed Westview residents.
What Wanda’s Hex did to Westview
At the end of WandaVision, Wanda takes down the Hex, ending the control that had forced Westview’s residents into roles inside her created world. As she walks through town, the residents’ anger is unmistakable. Creator comments described the scene as a deliberate confrontation with the consequences of Wanda’s actions, not a moment of forgiveness. Head writer Schaeffer said the residents’ looks were meant to feel like “an assault of death glares” and that viewers should feel “how angry they all are.” The Hollywood Reporter’s account of the finale discusses the scene and its intent.
Why Agatha is still in Westview
Wanda leaves Agatha in Westview under a spell that makes her believe she is Agnes, the nosy neighbor she played in the Hex. That is Agatha’s situation when the follow-up begins: in Agatha All Along, the Teen helps break her out of the distorted persona. Disney’s series overview describes the setup. What the show confirms—and what it leaves open
- Confirmed on screen: Wanda brings down the Hex, Westview’s residents are freed, and the population sign in Agatha All Along reads 2,251.
- Supported as creative context, not settled canon: Schaeffer connected the clue to discussion of a traumatic aftermath and the possibility that people left.
- Unresolved: The series has not accounted for each resident or established a definitive cause for the apparent population decline.
Agatha All Along revisits Westview through a new story focused on Agatha, rather than presenting a complete civic aftermath of the Hex. Its population clue suggests the town is still living with what happened; it does not settle the details.
